Best type of seat and back cushions for leather sofa to avoid puddling

I am in trying to decide what kind of leather sofa to buy, and have been looking at some pictures of used ones in the brands I'm interested in to see how they hold up. I don't like the extreme puddling effect that appears over time, and even the most expensive sofas seem to do it. I know down cushions puddle the most, and am leaning towards extra firm foam seats with extra full back cushions, but one cheaper brand I'm looking at has inner spring seat cushions with a foam layer, and then a down layer. The salesman said the springs will make the cushions "spring" back so they won't flatten out, but will still be comfortable. But I've read inner spring cushions don't work that well in leather furniture, they aren't strong enough to really spring back, and they only work well in fabric. Are spring cushions really better? Any other ideas to avoid puddling? I've heard a firmer leather is better, but have no idea how to find out which leathers are firmer.
