Leathercraft vs Classic leather, Jetton or other leather sofas?
Comments (12)We purchased a Jetton sofa and loveseat a couple of years ago (after I read John's recommendation). Overall we have been pleased but the pieces required rework for (1)a small bulge in the fabric on the lovesear due to a poor trim job - done on site (2)two pieces of fabric used for the rear of the sofa which resulted in a pattern mismatch - factory finally replaced with a single swatch (3) a noticeable gather on one sofa back due to tension in the fabric - this required two trips to the factory to fix. It took 3 trips back to fix because both the dealer and the manufacturer did not fully inspect the pieces before sending them back. I had to finally talk to the owner(s) and to their credit they did address my problems. I like the construction techniques used. One curious fact is that the dealer did not advertise the brand in their store. Although the wood furniture had the brand name prominently displayed, for the Jetton line, you didn't find out who made them till you asked. (I had owned Jetton before)...See MoreBest Leather Sofa Money Can Buy
Comments (10)Duane Collie is the man you need to talk to, he has posted above, and his link in another post on this page as well. Some of these companies will have some promotions, where they will put out pieces that will come in limited colours, maybe 2 colours, and certain grades of leather (usually not the top grades, probably grades 3, but still good leathers). I know that both H&M and B-Y have these promotions, but Duane usually has his fingers on the "button" when and how these promotions arise. Obviously, the closer you live to the manufacturing facilities, the less the shipping will be. hth...See MoreBest manufacturers of quality couches?
Comments (13)We have a Crate & Barrel sectional sofa, and while it is very comfy, the build quality is much less than furniture I've had custom made from an extremely reasonable company called Carolina Chair - http://www.carolinachair.com/. It's family owned and in my experience is really top-notch. Kathy and her brother are extremely pleasant to do business with. I've had them make a large sleeper chair with my own fabric and they did little tweaks to their standard designs/sizes that you couldn't do with most of the big manufacturers. They've also made me one of their standard queen sleeper sofas with their fabric. We upgraded to their most comfy inflatable mattress for my son's room and his buddies love it when they sleep over. I've also bought one of their swivel-rocker chairs and matching storage ottoman cube. All are very well-made pieces of furniture in my opinion. I highly recommend them. (Not sure if it is ok to plug a business like this, but it seems like the OP asked for sources. I have no connection with them other than being a satisfied, repeat customer.) The reason I didn't have our sectional made by Carolina Chair is that they could not do any top-stitching on the sectional fabric, which is something I loved a LOT about the C & B sectional. The sectional is in a basement playroom with a tile floor and no carpeting. The sofa moves around very easily if a teen sort of falls into it, which they seem to do. I worry that the clips that hold the pieces together will snap one of these days. Anyway, I feel my Carolina Chair furniture is much heftier and one of their sectionals wouldn't move around on the tile floor as much as the C&B does. BTW, our C&B sectional is also on sale - it's this one, and the fabric I love the look of is the charcoal with "contrast stitching." http://www.crateandbarrel.com/lounge-slipcovered-3-piece-sectional-sofa/s485873...See MoreBest sofa option with pets
Comments (24)Kellienoelle, Re. the sofa, while we don't allow the dog on the furniture (we have a yellow lab) since the fur goes everywhere, I can say that it vacuums up nicely and for doggie drool spots we've had good luck with just warm water and a sponge. We do have a cleaning solution we got when we purchased it, and we were able to use it to get some pen ink off with no problem. The sofa was pricier than we'd been used to, but we have had it for almost 5 years and sit on it every single day and the shape has held up beautifully. I rotate the seat cushions occasionally since DH and I tend to sit on either end. I can also vouch that it is extremely comfy to sleep on, as have several of our guests! We ended up with a dark brown color, but the variety of colors available was amazing. If we allowed Chloe on the couch I may have chosen something that 'matched' her fur ;-) Re. the house: my heart will always be with older homes. I grew up in one, and owned a 1905 American Foursquare on my own for years before meeting DH. What drove us to make the move was the fact that we did not have (or have space for) a garage, and our driveway was one car wide. We also had looked into doing some kitchen/bath upgrades and realized that for what we wanted to spend we would price ourselves out of our neighborhood and still have no garage. So I guess it depends on locale and the lot. While our new home lacks some of the character we loved in our older home, I do tell everyone that my favorite room is the 2 car garage- well, before our new kitchen went in that is! And the more open floor plan and extra baths/guest rooms make hosting our large families (all of whom are out of town) much more comfortable. As we go through and update we are making an effort to bring some character into our "tract" home, but if it were the right house and the right location I would not hesitate to own an old beauty again....See MoreRelated Professionals
