The Kitchen Table

We have a new baby boy.

I have 16 nieces and nephews, this little guy is the 11th grand nephew. Theodore James arrived early this morning. He has been named by his brothers Logan and Henry. Mom is doing great. More to come this year. It's going to be a year of boys for us. Another due in February followed by another in early April.

Oh, congratulations. New babies such a blessing, no matter how many there already are.

We're expecting a great- nephew on 2-28 and getting excited. It will be their first. First boy on her side of the family in a couple of generations, and first baby. Her OB has said though with ultrasound, he may be developed a week or more ahead of the first due date guesstimate.

The dividing lines most often go: toy 6-9 lbs; tiny toy 4-6 lbs; teacup under 4 lbs. If she's registered, you can get a geneology, which will give you a bit of a guide to her heritage in size. No promises, though. Nature persists in selecting some genes at random. I got Lalee when she was 3 weeks old, because the owner/breeder was going to euthanize her. Even at that tender age, being twice the size of her littermates, it was obvious her size was a 12-generation throw-back. Those previous generations were all teacups, weighing an average of 3 pounds, except for a 5lb g-g-g-etc-greatgrandsire. She was the most intelligent, and best-natured dog I've ever had.

I will get a bag of frozen peas today and see how he likes them. I change his water every couple weeks. I took the filter out, he seemed to really not like it. I talked with someone at a petstore that has multiple betta's and she said she didn't have a filter in any of her betta tanks. So I took his out, and I do a thorough cleaning when I change his water. I have quite a few live plants floating on the top of his tank and he seems to really like that. He's got his bubble nest in a corner. I try to scoop it out when I change his water and then pour it back in when I am done.

Hey McHarris, don't I know about "popcorn"! I have a Euphorbia leuconeura that seems to be in flower all the time and I have seed everywhere. I have sooooo many volunteers with them coming up between the floor boards in the greenhouse, other pots just everywhere... you know they're a weed....LOL Stush, the seeds are typical Euphorbia seeds. They have an avocado seed shape but significantly smaller; even smaller than E. obesa or my aforementioned E. leuconeura seeds. I place gauze netting over the pods as they mature so I can catch them and plant as soon as possible after they open because they have a relatively short shelf life.

We have a new baby in our family as well! A boy born in the very early hours of Boxing Day (just missed being a Christmas baby) named Lachlan Robert (Robert after his grandpa, who is no longer with us)....a robust Scottish name!!

A first for the proud M&D and the most recent in a string of 11 great nieces and nephews. My own stepdaughter has expressed no interest in having any of her own. She and her SO would rather have animals in their lives. And that's fine with me.

And, gardengal -- Wow, Lachlan Robert, can't get more Scots than that! Hope the new mom and dad are ready as the Great Adventure That Never Ends is just beginning.

One of our great nephews, born 5 months ago was suppose to be a little girl! Ultra sound said so LOL. He is precious. Imagine that surprise.

Judy Good, we had one of those surprises years ago. Brother and his wife were due, she went into labor at home and delivered a beautiful little girl. A few minutes later she had to push and out came another little girl. Identical twin girls. My sister in law hadn't had a ultra sound. It was her third and she didn't feel the need.

So many new babies. Love the names. I like the nickname Theo for Theodore. I have a Theo across the street from me and a Dorothy next door. No Lachlans yet but I like that name.
