Visiting Charleston, SC- tips?
Comments (11)Quirkpod and everyone!!!! I hope this is of some interest.... If you are gonna be in SC sometime in March/April.... Call, write, or somehow, just get directions to "Roses Unlimited" in Laurens SC and "Ashdown Roses" in Campobello SC... The only 2 places in SC that I will allow my money to be spent, Ever! 1) Roses Unlimited: The very best rose nursery around...and an absolutely stunning place to visit when the gardens/greenhouses are in bloom. About 35 minutes south of Spartanburg maybe 10 minutes off of I-26. And lots of the beautiful and heavenly aroma'ed noisette roses, and I guess they have every Buck rose ever developed. Beautiful healthy bushes for you, your yard, your garden, your world........GO THERE!!!!! Click the link, you'll be glad you did.... 2) Ashdown Roses: http://www.ashdownroses.com/ Quite the selection, especially my second faves, Hybrid Musks, Maybe 15 miles from I85/I26 just north of Spartanburg SC.....and since SC-11 is the I-26 Ashdown exit. No then, SC-11 is a very nice trip from I-85 north of the Big Peach near Spartanburg to just north of the GA/SC border at the lake. it's a 487.673 times nicer a ride than the same country covered on I-85. GO THERE! If just one of those two would move to NC, Tn, Va,, I would never ever again see any of SC that can't be seen from I-85 and would never again spend as much as $.001 in SC, ever again.... But regardless of my personal lunacy....Have a great trip!!! And remember, buy nothing and spend $0.00 in all of SC on anything except for roses, and get yer gas in Georgia if yer close, cheapest gas in all of DixieLand! And if you are heading south towards SC on either I-77 South or on US 321 South be sure to stop at Almost Heaven Antique Rose nursery. Lots of antiques, and quite the assortment of miniatures too.... The Rickards are some very nice people with some very nice roses.... http://www.almostheavenroses.com/ I hope this is of some interest.... Here is a link that might be useful: RosesUnlimited.....a wonderful place...See MoreTravel Q: Savannah vs Charleston
Comments (39)I live in the SE, and have been to all the places you listed! The Two Meeting Street Inn is my favorite place to stay in Charleston, as it is right on the Battery there in the residential district. I am a runner, so those early morning jogs down those exquisite residential streets were heavenly to me.There are too many amazing restaurants to list...see if your concierge is a true local and find out where THEY eat! :) If you don't mind a little drive, it is easy to get from NOLA to Natchez...and there is a scenic Hwy. I LOVE Natchez...we stayed in this amazing place called Monmouth Plantation...oh, it was lovely and such a complete Southern experience. We stayed at the Windsor Court hotel in NOLA, which is in the Buiness District, but just a short walk to the French Quarter. It was the best of both worlds to me, you could enjoy the craziness of Bourbon St, but then walk back to a wonderful, quiet hotel! And so close to the Cafe du Monde for your breakfast beignets! I am jealous of your trip! You will have an amazing time in these places! Oh, and the Biltmore Inn makes you feel like you are truly a guest of the Vanderbilts...Inn guests get lots of special perks while on the property. We just went in June for our anniversary. :)...See MoreGoing to Savannah
Comments (26)The last time we were in Savannah we had a wonderful dinner at the 17 Hundred 90 restaurant. We got into the area a bit early, so we walked around and popped into the gift shop of The Owens Thomas House museum. Unfortunately, the last scheduled tour had left, so the gift shop was the only option. We put it on our list of places to tour the next time we are in town. Another place to check out is the patio area of the Hyatt on River Street. It has a street and river view and it's a great (elevated) spot to grab a drink with your friends. My friends and I have enjoyed some wonderful, relaxing cocktail hours on that patio! Happy to hear you will be heading out to Tybee. I haven't been in a few years, but if you can time it right, you'll want to try to hit AJs Dockside restaurant on Tybee Creek at sunset. If you have the time, you might want to think about hitting Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton. It isn't far--about 15mins outside of Savannah. One of my favorite places in the area! Enjoy!...See MoreAny opinions on buying/selling and Charleston/Summerville
Comments (5)If your friend gave you the brush-off, then go elsewhere to list your house. I wouldn't just take the first guy you interview, though. Have at least 3 come out and give you their opinions on pricing and condition. Ask them all your questions and assess how well they communicate with you in the way you need. Browse through these forums. Just look at the subjects, read the ones that look applicable, and click to the next page of posts and continue the process. There are posts on picking a realtor, interview questions for realtors, how far to go in prepping/staging, etc. Any specifics on your house, feel free to post back here. I don't know if you'll find someone who knows the neighborhoods you're looking for, but you could also try facebook and see if there are any neighborhood groups or something that you can join and ask questions....See MoreBonnie
