I would love some suggestions for roses that can take heat!
Comments (14)thanks for all the great information. I've been googling all over for the perfect fit but i've been so adamant about fragrance...I guess I need to recalibrate a bit :) i have some david austins planted in that bed but further from that wall. it was suggested to me by someone that has them in the same zone but lower in the state she said they can take the heat...tamora, carding mill. i don't have anything against the wall other than a gemini. I do have a couple of sprayers that I was considering what to do with them...now I will use them for the trellis area. Abe Darby, Lady Emma Hamilton, and Jude the Obscure are all roses on my wishlist...maybe i'll try 1 or 2 of those mixed with something hardier like angel face...it looks lovely! i'm debating a young lycidas near the wall also...i've read here that it seems to do well in heat. i'm still looking for a creamy white climber that does well in the heat...fragrance or no...with a full cupped blossom...anyone have known performers? thank you....See MoreWould love some suggestions for this flowerbed...
Comments (15)I sure am going to have fun planning this bed all winter! More great suggestions to look up. Thank you! Lilies are going on my list Sierra! Especially after "oohing" and "aahing" over everyone's wonderful lilies in the weekly update threads. I've been thinking about the soaker hose too. Mentioned it to DH earlier this year. Definately worth further investigating (ie, planning how to get them through all the beds!) Glen, I do that too! MY DD & I love to go on our "Garden Walks" as we call them. At nights we decide which way to walk based on which gardens we want to see again or see the progress being made. Or just to compare how my stuff is doing compared to others in the neighbourhood! "Ok, it must be the weather this year. Look their's is doing the same thing as mine. Phew, I feel better now." LOL...See MoreWould love some thoughts/suggestions on plans
Comments (19)I agree with the others that the whole concept of "entering the house" is a problem, but that's been thoroughly discussed. The thing that'd be an absolute deal breaker for me is the table-table layout. It's a pet peeve of mine: why in the world would you want two eating spaces side by side? In fact, though your island doesn't show stools, it seems to have space for them -- do you really need three separate eating areas? I'm not against a desk in the kitchen, but you really don't want it in the middle of the action. It might be better placed down towards the breakfast room or in the spot you've reserved for the beverage area (no, no, then it'd be in the way of the door). Also, you don't need quiet at the desk? Before you commit to a microwave above the range, take a minute to read what people who have this set-up think of it. I don't mind the pantry being steps away from the kitchen. I do think it'll be a problem to bring groceries up the steps and then carry them around the corner to the pantry. Maybe not today, but eventually -- and if this is your retirement home, you want to plan to make everyday functions easy. Why not move the guest room down to the basement, allowing you a bit more space for the hallway and master bath? The connection between the laundry and the master suite is excellent. You've already addressed the problems in the bathroom. It's really just too small for all the items you're trying to squeeze into it. If I'm reading the small numbers correctly, you have two sinks in a 5'4" space? That's not wide enough to support two sinks, and it means you'll have no space for drawers by the sinks. Better to have one comfortable sink than two squished-together sinks. And toilets-in-closets aren't functional for aging-in-place; essentially you're limiting yourself to the space of a small public toilet stall. My grandmother was unable to use those and started wearing Depends when she went out -- you don't want to face that problem in your own home. I see you have built-in bookcases flanking the master bedroom window. Are you thinking of a window seat between the bookcases? That'd be lovely, and you could have storage for linens underneath it....See MoreCoffee Table and Side Table Suggestions
Comments (20)Can you post a link? Two things to take into account with future purchases. --Make sure the wood in the coffee table harmonizes with your wood floors. --The room is small, so something up on legs won't take up as much visual space as a solid coffee table, ottoman, or trunk. Can't tell from your photos if the floor trends toward driftwood or golden oak, but a variation of something like this, or a glass table if you get a great rug will work. P.S. Changed my mind about position of the print chair in the corner. It might look more welcoming to have it face into the room within reach of your future coffee table....See MoreDawn
