Warm ceiling white paint?
Comments (11)I like Behr's Palatial White - it's an old color. Ellen Kennon's Classic Cream is another go-to ceiling color. Sherwin williams Muslin works nicely too. Laura Ashley's Cassia has a strong yellowness to it, but it can really help brighten a ceiling that grays out in certain light -- it's all about the light you have to work with. SAMPLE! :-) Ted, I hope you are only using those color sites for general hue renferences. You can not print color chips from your computer. That would be one hot mess. Just the same, you can not view paint colors on a monitor with any accuracy whatsoever. Those color tools are good for reference only, one can not use them as absolute color samples. Some brands offer real, hand-painted sample chips. Most brands these days are offering some kind of small sized sample program. If not, invest in a quart! You have to test the actual color in your room/space/home in order to make solid color decisions. Ceilings are particularly tricky due to flop angle issues; the angle from a which a color is viewed can change its appearance. Tru-Hue has a nifty product for that - sample boards that bend to form 90 degree angles. See link. Comments (48)Simply heartbreaking! Our two water damage events were not anywhere near your disaster but I remember feeling just devastated at the amount of the work needed for the cleanup. â The first time, we came home after an all day family Thanksgiving gathering at my parents to find the upstairs bathroom plumbing to the tub had broken. All the water fell into our bedroom on the first floor along with the ceiling. â Our next water issue happened during the night. We had a portable dishwasher and had hooked it up, turned it on and went to bed. Eight hours later found the connection had broken from the faucet and had water from the kitchen pouring down to the basement along with steamed and dripping windows throughout the first floor. All my DH's Marine Corps clothes and gear took a direct hit. They were all ready to wear neatly closeted in his part of the basement directly under the kitchen. I can only imagine the despair you felt when you discovered your flood damage! My prayers are with you and your family....See MoreMixing wood trim and wood cabinets?
Comments (8)We have a mix of woods in our house and think it looks just fine. :-) Our flooring is natural white oak, stairs are natural red oak. Doors and trim, and stair rails are Golden Oak stained red oak and our pine (Andersen) windows and trim were stained to match the doors. The only window that has different trim, is the kitchen window. Because it is sandwiched between our cherry cabs (which have a 25% or quarter-cut Harvest Gold stain), we opted to match the cabs for that window (our cab manuf actually supplied, and stained the cherry trim to match the cabs, and the pine window frame was stained to match as well). We have natural black walnut furniture in our DR--somewhat open to the kitchen. The only thing I'd do differently today, might be to use a less golden/orange, more neutral stain for our doors, trim, windows. Otherwise, I like the way all the wood tones, grains, and colors harmonize together to create a happy, woodsy palette!...See MoreCabinet and trim advice
Comments (6)You've got too much of the same thing going on - mainly wood stained the same - You need some contrast. I love the Vale Mist color with the granite you've already selected. It's pretty light and will add a little something to the kitchen. You could swap out the upper doors to get rid of the arched top as those are a bit dated, but you don't have to. I'd look into getting a price just to see what the cost is. Your cabinets need hardware as well. Get rid of the valance on the window over the sink and replace the "boob" light with a pendant. Your floors seem in good shape and if so I wouldn't touch them. Start in the kitchen first and paint the cabinets, paint the trim white, and consider getting a new table. It's too much wood. I would also paint out just the spindles on the stairs leaving the top railing stained as is. Paint the trim on the large window as it looks odd with the window above having no trim. Start there and I think the changes will really lighten and brighten your space....See MorePam A
