Comments (28)I think all the furniture feels like it is pushed out to the walls. I would take the bookcase in the LR that is to the right of the couch, and put that on the wall that is behind the couch now. Then you will be able to open up a standing space in front of that, by moving the couch forward into the living room space. Take the console table and lamps from behind the couch and put that on the wall where the bookcase was, with the mirror from over the fireplace above it. The mirror there will help bounce light from the windows into the room, as well as bouncing the light from the lamps. Now, push the couch further forward, so that the front edge of the couch is at least as far forward as the divider between the center and side window of the bow. Turn the rug parallel to the couch, keep the coffeetable. Take the two chairs and use them both with the table between them, but rotate them so that the chair on the right of the pair is where the end table is now, then the end table to the left of that, and the other chair to the left of that - it will be sitting with its back to the bow window. This should create a cohesive grouping of your furniture, fill the wall space behind the couch but allow the couch to logically move forward, and let the table and lamps be seen that are currently behind the couch and invisible. Take the red artwork that was above the console table and use it up on the wall above the mantel instead of the mirror. Move the tall candlesticks from the hearth to the mantel toward the left end, with the taller one to the outside, and then stand the red plate to the right of that, but so a bit of the plate overlaps the middle height candlestick. Take the two hurricane candlesticks and use them on the dining table. I would release the tiebacks on the drapery. They would look more contemporary and cleaner that way - they are really not full enough to tie back and create the nice draping effect you want for that....See Morehelp make this bath modern and spa like. lets play
Comments (14)Mongo makes very good points so always listen to him, even if he claims to down play his design sense, LOL. Don't use that light. I would only use lighting that is rated for damp locations. Get your whole scheme together before you buy anything else! Do what Mongo suggested and go online to see images of what you like. You can't put everything in the room that you like, so you will have to cull. Find the basic themes that you like and build on that theme. You state you want modern. Pebbles and stone tile don't necessarily say modern to me. Pebbles are too organic to look modern. You might be thinking more of an organic look. The cabinet would look wonderful in that scheme. I typed in "organic modern bathroom" into Houzz. To me these are really more of an organic contemporary, as "modern" may not technically be accurate in the design term. Comments (11)Option 1 is a beautiful cabinet and I also find the contrast of the two finishes interesting rather than bothersome. Matchy matchy is out these days, but beyond that I just feel the two go together very well. My only worry would be the handles, and whether they're the kind where you snag everything on the sharp corners....See MoreBefore & After: 2001 cookie cutter builder’s grade to our-style modern
Comments (8)Hi @turtlexings24, Thanks for the compliment. I am very happy with my GC. Folks on here probably won't think it was wise but...It was me. I GC'd and designed our bath renovation after striking out with about a dozen others. It was stressful but nothing I couldn't handle. Gannt charts, spreadsheets, and research kept things organized. My job is flexible enough to allow me to wfh and adjust my schedule as needed so I was here for every subcontractor and inspector. We did hire an advisor/project manager who connected us with all the subcontractors we needed, Home Improvement Partners. Troy was great and saved us a ton of time hunting for all the individual professionals we needed....See MoreDominick Guevara
