Laundry in kitchen or in separate laundry room?
Comments (16)I agree it's hard to give a fair answer without knowing the layout/seeing photos and understanding the reasons why DH and others suggest combining. With that said, the big negative, for me, would be the noise. Our laundry is in an adjacent room to the kitchen/living room and it's hard to hear the TV/each other with the laundry running. Being able to close a door on that sound is a big help. If you can manage to only do laundry at off times, I guess that wouldn't matter. The second negative depends on how you do laundry. Do you have dirty clothes sitting around in the laundry space? If so, I would opt to isolate that mess/dirt/smell in another space. We are childless so we don't collect laundry in our laundry room.... so, that wouldn't be an issue for us/everyone but it's something to consider. The positives, potentially, are a larger feel to your kitchen..... and more countertop space. What are the positives your DH sees?...See MoreNeed help with Laundry/Mud Room set up
Comments (0)Hello! Looking for creative solutions to maximize storage in our laundry/mudroom. Plumbing/electrical is already roughed in, so the washer and dryer stay. The door at the "top" comes from the back porch. Pocket door feeds to the kitchen. Electric panel is on the wall behind the exterior door. I'm left with about 4' wide of floor to (9') ceiling wall space next to dryer. Washer is top-loader, so will need clearance above to open. Things I'd like: storage for broom, mop, maybe vacuum, storage for detergent and cleaning supplies, rod to hang clothes, either/both countertop for folding laundry or/and seat for putting on shoes. Suppose you could add some sort of shelving/cabinets on the wall directly across from the exterior door. Overall, my style is open, airy, transitional, so I'm not a huge fan of bulky pieces (but could live with it). Thanks for any input!...See MoreNeed help with Laundry/Mud Room set up
Comments (4);) The "base cabinet" on the plans isn't set in stone. Really the only things unmovable at this point are the washer/dryer and electric panel behind the exterior door (on the same wall as pocket door). I'm leaning towards cabinets above w/d, a handing rod with bench below, and a broom/vacuum closet next to it with shelves or cabinet above. Maybe a retractable drying rack above the bench? What do you think's a comfortable width for the bench? 18" doesn't seem wide enough--though only one person will sit at a time....See MoreWhat do you store in your laundry/mud/utility room?
Comments (13)My laundry room is only that; it's not a mud room or utility room. I have lots of shelves - hub built most of them and installed them. There are huge hooks he installed for me to hang clothes on (I hang and fold clothes as I'm taking them out of the dryer). He also installed a nice rod/shelf above the dryer so that I can hang or lay things there to air dry. Other than machines, hooks on the wall, and shelves, I have lots of laundry detergent, a jug of vinegar, a huge jug of fabric softener (one lasts more than a year), a box of OxiClean and Color Catchers for when I combine colors in a load (I don't do that often, but I have a thing about only washing full loads). And a tall kitchen size trash can which seems to stay full - I haven't figured that out yet. Mine is very utilitarian, but it works for me and is in a very handy location....See MoreSue
