I have a huge pile if sand from a old pool what do I do with it?
Comments (8)Grass wont grow on a beach.....so compare what you have and decide how best to use it. Sand is a marvellous drainer of moisture. Chances are the sand you have is not good for gardening. If its beach sand, or sand more likely found in a child's playbox, it is not what one should use for helping plants drain. What you have to do to the area is devise a plan on how to get organic matter into the ground under the sand. Six inches of sand...you didn't say what the area was...so we assume it was a 30' wide above ground round pool. That would work out to about 12 cubic yards of sand. You have a lot of work to do. If the sand is the type that can be used for gardening....that is, it is a coarse grain type, then maybe you can offer it to friends and neighbors to come and take what they want. Spread out over a wide area, and dug down 6" - 12" could be done if it is this type. You might get in touch with a quarry in your area and offer it free of charge. Probably tho, they wont accept it--they have lots without it. You'd have to hire a front-end loader to take to a truck to haul it away. To dig it in and cover over with topsoil might prove to be a bigger headache. Sand, the type that comes from the beach, will not drain moisture, instead, it will cause soil to become like granite...especially if it is clay soil. A sign out front...."free sand" might get rid of some..just don't tell them its not the type for gardening. Lots of kids in the neighborhood, the sign might read 'good for sandboxes'. Its too bad you didn't write into the sale documents that the sand had to be removed by seller. The people in North Dakota could use it....See MoreBham and West -- what grass do you have? Comments (1)You might consider calling your local extension office to see what turf type they get the most phone calls (complaints) about in your region. And in your location, I wouldn't discount Zoysia, a warm season grass. The cool season grasses will stress in the heat and from what I hear, we're in for some hot, dry summers again....See Morewhat bugs do you have and hate? (If you can stand it)
Comments (51)I can deal with most of the bugs we have around here as they are only a minor annoyance except MOSQUITOS! They make it virtually impossible to enjoy a summer evening outdoors here. Trying to garden on a humid day is a nightmare. Standing outside talking to neighbors can get really annoying. There is no way to really get rid of them w/o using nasty pesticides or sprays that I don't really want to put on my body nor my kids! Of course, we have other bugs that can be a pain. We have occasional issues with ants, but none that are bad. This summer though, for the first time, we had them in our kitchen, which really grossed me out. Fortunately, an ant trap took care of it so it was over rather quickly. I also had pantry moths once and that was a total nightmare. Had to throw pretty much everything in my fully loaded pantry away and discovered them while making dinner so had to stop everything and immediately start binging as I was so grossed out. I had one or two minor outbreaks after that but with traps and putting everything that attracts them in airtight containers, I've had no problems since. But mosquitos....just no way to safely get rid of those unfortunately!...See MoreSpray faucets. What do you have and why do you love (or hate) it?
Comments (40)I've had my Kohler Clairette for at least 10 years (kept it when I renovated my kitchen because I liked it so well) and I've never had a problem with functionality or finish. The spray stays on until I switch it to stream (and vice versa) with a little toggle button. It would bug me to have to hold a button to keep the spray on, or if it reset when I turn off the water. I don't have a problem with it not going back in place. However, if you pull down the sprayer/head and just leave it, it will dangle; it doesn't retract on its own. But the magnet is strong enough to hold it in place once the head is back near the starting point. (My BF leaves it dangling sometimes just to annoy me.) <<(after I wrote that I realized that sounds kinda dirty, but I'm talking about the faucet!) FWIW I got mine from Kohler. I've read that the big box stores might sell the same brands but lesser quality - not sure how that works but just saying. ETA: do you have a Pirch, Kohlers showroom, or similar store near you that has faucets hooked up to water sources? That might help make a decision. My mom bought a Grohe years ago that she replaced after just a couple months because the sprayer didn't stay on without holding the button. Had she been able to test it she would have known and never purchased it. It was a $500+ faucet that the store wouldn't let her return....See Moretinam61
