I like it, but it is a style preference. If it is not your thing remove. There is not a right answer, just what you like.

Yes wainscoting will go up to end of first floor stairway! I don’t like it as I like things more modern and simple. But my husband likes it! I want to cater to buyers as resale is a VERY important factor in my decision.

Would higher end market buyers like this stuff? I am in a more traditional market, not hip NYC, LA type of markets. :p

It seems your husband is telling the builder to go ahead with these decisions, even though you don't agree ... that might be a subject for a different forum altogether!

As long as these trim details fit the style of the house, then it should not affect resale.

I am a trim fanatic (as long as it is well-done!) so I’d definitely keep it If it goes with the style of the home. High quality trim makes a house look substantial.

@nini804 do you think this style looks good? We are doing modern craftsman style casing and trims throughout! We are also doing coffered ceiling in the grandroom you see straight up ahead and more wainscoting in the dining area which is in front of the kitchen. We do not have a separate dining room. Just a huge island and the dining nook.
