Where should I hang my curtains?

Hi! I have a unique room where the transom windows actually hit the ceiling. The previous owner dropped the ceiling (no idea why). Anyway, I want to hang linen curtains with curtain hooks and wondering if I should hang then in between the sets of windows, or at the very top (but that would also mean the rods cut through the windows). Thoughts? Thanks!

From what I can tell from your photo, it seems you don't have a choice, as there is no room between the top of the transom and the ceiling. They need to be hung between the window and the transom. That being said, there seems to be a weird wavy piece of ceiling in that room. Is there room above that? Can it be removed?

I would hang them in between the transoms and the rest of the windows. Leave the transoms bare.

how about panels on the end of each slider? drapes soften rooms, negating hard edges. an interesting rod placed high below the crown molding, say... white wood or black iron spanning the width of the slider ( enough bulk to counter the stone) but only hung on the out side edge of the slider, drapes in a quiet print, perhaps picking up other colors of adjoining rooms. not serviceable for sure, but may add some interest. your room is beautiful!

There is a very small distance between the top of the window casing and the ceiling, but maybe a very thin rod can fit. You need to find hardware and measure very carefully, so that the wall brackets also fit in the space. You'll need a center bracket for support. And yes mount the rod about 6" wider than the window on both sides so you can stack the curtains back and take advantage of the beautiful view!

@Jan Moyer We are building a guest house with 10’ ceilings and i am planning to install outside mount woven shades and sheers as in your mockup photo. I have 2 more days to do any additional blocking for shades and curtain rods. see photo i planned to hang rods about 9” from ceiling in case we later add crown moulding Question 1: is this height ok? 2. Is this enough blocking? or need more? 3. For nearby kitchen and mudroom windows, should they also be outside mounted to provide the most light ? or since they wont have sheers, should they be inside mounted? thanks!

Those ceiling mounted curtain rods make me think of a hotel. OP wants rods and rings.

@design girl the previous owner dropped the ceiling and made a tray ceiling but it’s like wavy

IMO, that wavy weird ceiling is doing nothing for your space. I'd have to remove that.

@Design Girl we purchased this house as a foreclosure and that ceiling is on our list but wayyyyyy down in the list hahah

@Christina Cardile. I get it. So much to do, so little money. I just mentioned that as it would allow you to put the rods in a different place. Just place the rods over the molding between the lower window and the transom.

Would hang them between window and transom. You could leave the upper windows bare or add a peel & stick "frosted" or "tinted" window cover to it or add small Tiffany style sun catchers that attach to the transom windows with suction cups -- changeable with the seasons or your mood.

Drapes cost a lot of money if you are planning on removing the drop down I would just do blinds for now and wait until you get that finished Then I would hang the drapes as high as possible and very nice and full and then panels made to hang between the windows .

Thank you everyone! I have ordered the hardware and some curtains to hang right under the transom windows. If I think about it, I will post an after pic!
