Chip on cast iron bath edge....sob, sob...
Comments (5)Kohler does have touch up paint they can send you. I asked for it when my second tub from the arrived chipped on the edge. You just paint it on but in my case, they sent two colors that have to be mixed together. I have the sea salt color cast iron jacuzzi tub....See Morechipped mitre edge countertop
Comments (32)I am a fabricator. Unfortunately, when working with a natural product sometimes it doesn't cooperate. Repairs are common and a good fabricator will do it such that the end user will never recognize it as a repaired area. In this instance I think a really good fabricator could make a repair that would be acceptable assuming some of the original material is still available. The fab shop dug a hole for themselves by letting a poor repair out the door. Properly done, it would've been repaired in the fab shop (where it's much easier to do) and the homeowner would have no complaint....See MoreCorian counter edge profile and chips
Comments (3)I’m happy with eased, but I was on a budget, so not too picky. I considered bevel, but concluded that the straight lines would be too specific. Think about the corners. How will they look with your edge? I was asked how rounded I wanted the corners to be - they offered several degrees of roundness (horizontally). It’s more of an issue on peninsulas and islands. I think eased will go with more, and the more detailed options will become more of a design feature. I prefer backsplash and cabinet hardware to command more attention than counter edge. If you have a lot of straight, sharp lines in your kitchen, beveled might be nice. Look at the kitchen displays in the showrooms - even the big box stores will have a few full countertops on display....See MoreChipped melamine on new cabinet box edges?
Comments (16)With all due respect to Joseph, he suggests in an earlier comment that they are “just“ shelves and therefore the homeowner should get over it, than acknowledges in a later comment “chipping is from improper saw blade selection and use.” Exactly right. The cabinet maker screwed up. And sadly, having just had a custom home built, I can say that this attitude of it’s “just this” and “just that” has spread like a cancer through the construction industry resulting in shoddy work in all shapes and sizes. I have melamine drawer boxes that look awful (chipped, and even some “upgraded” chipped maple boxes in a few areas of my home.) At first I was ticked at the cabinet maker. I’m a weekend woodworker and knew exactly what caused the poor end result. But then I took a hard look in the mirror and realized the true problem was staring back at me—like most consumers I wanted the Taj Mahal for the price of a manufactured home. I work in an industry where I regularly deal with folks building homes and I can ensure you the true problem really is that everyone wants something for nothing, and that this attitude is forcing subcontractors to NOT pay for proper, more expensive blades and the extra money required for more experienced help. This reality is extremely frustrating having grown up in a family where I was taught to “measure twice and cut once”, and that “anything worth doing is worth doing right.” But then again, many professionals are trying to balance this same attitude out with the fact that they are trying to run a business. In short, consumers need to accept that slim margins are training talented professionals to turn their head to unacceptable workmanship because it’s “just this” and “ just that.” My neighbor built his home the same time I did. He paid thousands of dollars more for his cabinets. And guess what? His are beautifully crafted inside and out. Imagine that... Having said that I would also like to add that the current shortage of subcontractors (in my area at least) has allowed some extremely non-talented/unethical folks to creep in, and that their workmanship would be garbage regardless of what you paid them. They take no pride in what they do and are simply focused on getting to the next job. Buyer beware. Do your homework. And pay a fair price. In regard to hiding the chips—I’ve been told that white Seamfil will help and will be trying that....See MoreLaura
