Comments (24)We sci fi/fantasy readers NEVER give back books, but collect them and love them, returning to them when nothing new has come our way. I rarely get anything new here in Israel, so I rely on the one, maybe two used shops in Haifa, where the pickin's are slim and new stuff is a luxury and very expensive. My partner wails and moans over the state of my two bookshelves (messy, crammed, etc.) but I know exactly what is where. Years ago, my beloved books, which I laboriously brought with me overseas, was stored at an acquaitance's home while I relocated. There was a family fight, and her brother in a pique threw every book into the garbage, and I only found two survivors to tell the tale. Woodchip first edition of Our Bodies Ourselves, other jewels of sci fi fantasy from the seventies, you name it, GONE. Since then I've never let anybody have power over my library. I would curl up and fade away without my books, like without my garden. WHat I can't explain is my refusal to throw out a huge amount of old magazines, like The Whole Earth Review (I have them from when it was the Coevolution Quarterly); Mothering; the Sun, etc. Why do they mean so much? NO answer. Oh well, if this were only my wierdest quirk...........See MoreBacksplash with floating shelves?
Comments (47)It seems like in the kitchens where the tile doesnt go all the way up, it works best when the cabinets (surrounding the range/hood) also dont go all the way to the ceiling. But, in your case the cabinet to the left of the range does go all the way up to the ceiling. So, I also vote for tile to the ceiling. And the staggered brick, but like steph said the stacked would also look nice, just a different "feel"....See MoreHelp - Work/home office ongoing disaster - floating shelves
Comments (24)I love the Bright Green Office; looks very logical. I love your room. If you want some art in the room, get it first and let it drive your color scheme. Get rid of everything in the room, except what you need to work in the room, and organize it into boxes, bins, what ever so you can think straight about what goes where when. Then paint the room a nice soothing color you like...pick a color then go two tints lighter! And paint! Then decide where the desk will go and set up the computer. Find a concealer for wires and plugs online or at the container store. Add shelves and designated closed storage, even if it is baskets or fabric bins with clear large name tag designation for each bin.....get a perch for the kitty, and your are pretty done......anyway that is just my suggestion, but it might help?...See MoreHelp with living room decor /floating shelves
Comments (18)TV looks too high to me also. Corner iron piece detracts from nice fireplace. What’s the outlet high up on right for? What is the console looking piece behind black chair? I like your furniture pieces & rug together & looks like a really nice room. Thought of painting that fireplace makes me cringe! I think it’s pretty & adds nice texture to room. I’m not a member of the “let’s paint all the stone group”. I can’t offer any suggestions about your shelves or coffee table choice without seeing more of room from different angles. I do agree that walls either side of TV could use some interest but I keep coming back to TV. Too big for space & too high. My vote is to move it but can’t say where wo seeing more of room. Doing that might require some rearranging of seating too. I just think the fireplace would look so pretty with the TV moved....See Moremshutterbug
