Has anyone ELSE had the family dog devour a scented geranium?
Comments (3)right off bushes; off of THORNY bushes too. It's a very good thing I went for an Edible garden because these canines eat everything. If I had the Castor Bean plants and the Datura everyone else has here I'd have two dead dogs. There is no accounting for their appetites; also their plantlusts change and what they wanted yesterday they don't want today and the thing I thought was safe suddenly has crescents taken out of it (like my thornless Opuntia...) They have even eaten mature fig leaves and that's like eating sandpaper. And yes, they are well fed....See MoreVeal for a touchy tummy?
Comments (5)Thanks, all. I don't know that my friend likes chicken and fish all that much, it is just that he has digestive problems. His problems have lead him to a fear of eating much of anything. I just thought if someone knew that veal was easy to digest, he might give it a try. As to aversions to veal, DH has one. When I get really really mad at him, I cook veal...with mushrooms. That'll teach him!...See MoreTroubles of a 9-month old Pug rescue dog
Comments (4)YES. ABSOLUTELY you can teach a dog to go back to sleep. My pup would get a long walk in the evening just before bed at least 15 minutes, then off to his blanket. When he was about a year, he would get up early - like 5am, I would take him out only to take some off the top and then tell him, go back to bed. After a bit he would get up, and I would say go back to bed. Now he sleeps til 10am, and sometimes does not pee til 11am...He gets an hour walk in the morning, another two walks during the day, usually in the later afternoon and again in the evening. These are anywherre from 15 minutes to a half an hour. Then he gets his evening walk just before I get ready to turn in myself we are out for about 20 minutes. He is completely empty of everything when I go to bed. Your situation is a bit different. You need to have a bit more patience, your pup is only 9 months old, and has had a hard start. Be patient and continue what you are doing. No crating for more than 3 hours during the day if possible. You might also want to open the crate door at night and provide some blankets just outside the crate in case he does eliminate and needs a place to go. That you are reacting at 4am, you are teaching him to get up at 4 am. It may take a couple of weeks but you can get your pup to sleep through the night, and a good long walk and some play time before bed will help immensely. Good luck...See MoreMy dog is constantly scratching her tummy.
Comments (7)Thanks everyone. She does have slight allergies so that is why she is on the food from the vet and the special vet shampoo for her skin. I was told by my vet and other Doxie owners that Dachshund are more prone to a dog smell then other breeds. It is just the breed. I don't mind it but DH does. The vet also told me to use Benadryl if it got bad. She has the run of 2.5 acres so gets LOTS of exercise. She loves to run! And we don't have any carpet, removed it all as I said in above post. And got rid of the lawn 20 years ago and put in bark. And since my son has had allergies I only use natural cleaners and grow food organically and use no chemicals outside. jean001 - Thanks for the link. I had done a search and read that post earlier. What I really wanted to know if there was a spray or lotion I could put on the itchy area to easy the itch like calamine lotion for humans? I wouldn't use that on her unless it was ok.
