Wow, that is gorgeous bedding. The red pattern is very intense and busy, and when paired with the black furniture the intensity will be magnified. I would go with an Ivory for the walls. You don't want anything to compete and overwhelm. What are your plans for the flooring for the room? Window treatments?

Thanks! Re: retro The green and black is long gone. In its day i'm sure it was lovely, but so much of it was just beyond nice anymore and lots of replacement tiles had been inserted. Not to mention galvanized plumbing behind it that had to be replaced (little water flow!) It was incredibly cemented to the wall. Apparently they used very strong stuff back then - like cement! There was a salvage company here so i think that stuff will be reclaimed. Ironically, our first place in SF had lovely green/black/pink combo and they had updated just the floor and marbilized g/b/p paint and it was really cool. This one just wasn't as salvagable. Re: cabs / backsplash The cabs look lighter in the daylight - they seem to change drastically depending on the light. None of the real lights have power yet so we'll see what we end up with :). Mostly warm LED that I've not even IRL. For the backsplash we are cutting 12x12 honed crema marfil marble into 3x12 and laying in a brick pattern. The grouting was just started today I love it so far. We'll put an enhancing sealer on it to bring out a little more of the veining. It was hard to decide - we must have brought home 1/2 the tile store and then going (once again) with the tile guys recommendation :) I wanted something that was nice but simple looking that didn't detract at all from the granite which is so pretty. I keep finding more cool clearish (mica? ) spots in it that just give it so much depth. I ended up with something very similar to kitcheaddicts if I remember correctly. Hi, I think to calm everything down, you will want to match one of the lightest colours out of your granite for the backsplash. I also think that a larger format tile might help offset some of the busy-ness of the floor. I'd go with coordinating colour for the grout, or just slightly darker than the tile...but not a lot darker - you don't need more action in that kitchen. How about something like this which appears to have a bit of surface texture but is still very simple. That one is from Tilebar and I know they have a great sample policy so it is worth hopping onto their site and choosing a few you think might work for you and ordering them in. Yes, a solid colour rug and big enough to cover most of the tile (Ikea is your friend on this) will help until you have budget to redo the floor. Flippers who use the cheapest materials available are just wasting so much time and effort, not to mention money. I've seen so many houses where a flipper has come in and used the cheapest tiles and fixtures and covered everything with a fresh coat of paint. Then they want a 200% return on their investment and cannot understand why it isn't selling. And it isn't long until all the cheap finishes end up in landfill. Sigh.........

Beige IMO is the least neutral you can find. It has so many undertones that choosing the right one is a matter of hit and miss. Before choosing any colors make sure all your lighting ie LED in 4000K this mimics daylight and keeps colors true. I would be looking a for a pale green from the granite for the walls a really pale one that has just a hint of that green to it. If you want to lighten up the space remove the backsplash get a nice glass tile and some under cabinet lighting and IMO keep flooring to one ideally but 2 at most.
