I have two Carolina Wrens roosting on my front porch in an artificial fern basket. I have a gourd that I'd like to use for roosting as it may be warmer. I know that the hole should be near the bottom because heat rises. I'm wondering if I should scrape the gourd out or leave it in for insulation. Also, should I drill a couple of holes on each side above the hole for an inside perch? Do you think it would work? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
