Help! Will this back-splash work?
Comments (18)If your choice were only between to 2 you originally posted, I'd choose the one on the right--the cream one. From the photos it looks like it works very well with your quartzite. The gray one is "off" just enough not to look pleasing. However, as many have noted, either one is more difficult to clean than a smooth surface. What sort of cook are you--very neat or more devil-may-care? If you are very neat and do not splash much when you cook, then you may get away with the split-faced marble, but if you are a more exuberant cook, you may find it a challenge to clean. The mother of pearl is very formal and quite busy, so it's going to compete with the counter tops as well. Personally, I would use a smooth crackle tile in a tan/beige tone to work with your quartzite. Simple is always good....See MoreWould black subway tile work for backsplash???
Comments (9)Gray is a great compromise. I was leaning toward that color myself. Any suggestions for tile size? I'd like to keep the subway tile look but go a bit larger than the standard 3×6. How about a 4×12? I heard it may help our kitchen appear larger....See MoreColor Help for Kitchen: Birch+Pine+Maple+Black Granite+Backsplash!
Comments (10)While I think a beige could look really good, I think that it might not be the best choice for selling the house. My impression (from the real estate photos I've seen in my area) is that houses are still being painted gray in preparation for sale. (I know, people on this site keep saying gray is on its way out, and it may be, but I that's because it is at, or only a wee bit past, its mass market peak). But you're obviously having trouble finding a gray/greige, so what about white (which seems to be on an upswing) or off-white? BM Alabaster BM Navajo White (this is definitely a warmer off white)...See Moreugly yellow walls, granite with red specks,Gray backsplash?!
Comments (24)I would clean the cabinets well, and leave the cabinets and the backsplash. Sand any rough spots on the walls, and fill in the nail holes. Prime the walls with a good quality primer and then paint it. Yellow should never have been used with those cabinets. Either paint white, or a light aqua color, or a light green (no yellow greens). Put two coats of paint on the walls, and I think you will be a lot happier. I wouldnt try to even use the stove with that microwave there so low. Have that removed and buy an inexpensive hood to replace it, and an inexpensive microwave to either set on a cabinet, or on a small stand of some type. You may be saving for a new kitchen, but, in the meantime, you need to make it usable. Congratulations on your new home....See Morekaterice
