Some of my variegated monsteras in FL

Here's some photos of my variegated monsteras. There are also some plain green and the mini monstera, Ginny mixed in. These are growing outdoors in FL. Theres 3 separate plants then I have 2 babies not shown hat I rooted off mother plants. They do well here outdoors in NE FL but I have to bring them in or greenhouse them if we freeze. One is starting to climb my Starfruit tree.

There is a big green monstera leaf at the top which belongs to my solid green M deliciosa.

This plant (separate from the one above) has a more yellow creamy variegation than my other two. The pattern is otherwise the same.

Same plant as above ..there is some mini monsteras Ginny (Rhaphidophora tetrasperma) at bottom left. Gives a good representation of size lol.

This one is Starting to climb. I just let them sprawl where they want to. In the past they were in mostly all day sun and they take it surprisingly well. They all get sun part of the day. I think the variegation would be stronger if they got more shade.

There is a mixture of white and green variegated tissue in that Monstera. In your case they are pretty well segregated....you probably see a white strip on the stem on one side....the same sideyou are getting the variegation on. You will get the most consistent variegation on the plants that have the most marbling....where every leaf has a marbled mix of green and white. However, by nature this time of variegated chimera is "unstable".....the looks of each new leaf or new branch will depend on the mixture of white and green cells where the bud orginated. I started with a plant like yours. After it grew a bit I cut up the stem into nodes with one leaf for propagation. Each grew a new stem. Most were green but one originated from where the white and green came together...giving a little better variegation. I grew that one, tossed the rest and repeated. At that point I got one that came out from the green and white and had a better and more consistent mixture of green and white. I ahve bee growing the latter every since! I try to remove any branches that become too white and/or too green. BTW, this is a fun plant and one of my favorites!!

Hi Michelle! Did you figure this out already or am I stepping in too late? The top photo is an older more mature leaf shape, the lower is a more juvenile monstera that has just begun to split. If allowed to climb and given enough light, the lower pictured plant would eventually develop more fenestrations and get that large (also given that it is actual deliciosa and not deliciosa v. borsigiana). Hope this helps!

Timothy Sorry no variegation there. The color is a little uneven on the leaf.....probably something environmental caused that......but it is not variegated. Variegated sports do show up now and then, not often but sometimes people find them.

new pole.. when was it repotted.. it all looks like transplant stress ... or if you just got it.. moving stress ... i would not use a metal twist tie ... the wire wont expand as the plant grows.. but that is well into the future ... i think.. cant really tell.. but you are focused on the lowest oldest leave.. the one sacrificed when stressed... how does the newest leaf look .. not sure you gave us a pic of that ... ken
