Not bad, I would go up another foot to clean it up, make the cuts straighter but not bad. I bought a Mexican Fan to replace my Sabal Mexicana. Seems these are impossible to transplant. I have about another year or two before I will have trunk on my Fan.. All your marks will grey up in a few weeks mabye a month.. Good going.. also got two big new sagos. One of the pups on one the old ones I have popped out of the ground with just one frond, kinda bizzare wish all the fronds would come out but just got the one.. Did you ever pick up those free sagos that guy had advertised? My parents brought me these from somewhere.. they had asian scale on these to but not to bad.

Hi Hunter, Ii hope u can get to Va! You will be able to have more of a variety of tropicals here. So, Brian and I are keeping our fingers crosses for you to head to Bedford!!!! blondboy: For the cycads the mix is 50% perlite, 50% topsoil from Home Depot. In the spring I mixed in a slow release 16-4-12 fertilizer with Micronutrients (the trace elements are extremely important). During warm weather I water almost daily, and once a week I supplement with a high nitrogen soluble fertilizer, such as Miracle-Gro lawn food. The plant sits in full sun. Cycads truly are wonderful plants, and they do very well indoors for the winter because they will tolerate lower light and humidity, and as long as watering is kept to a minimum, they will not grow any unsightly fronds. oppalm: I will just trim back the impatiens down to soil level when I bring the palm indoors, the impatiens' roots will die and provide compost as it decomposes. I don't think that disturbing the palm's surface roots would really harm it anyway; if I was to repot and start trimming back the main roots, then I'd be concerned. When I repotted this palm earlier in the summer, it did not skip a beat, it kept right on growing.

I had to get my husband's help with the photos, but I wanted to make a few notes about them: 1. you can see the "clouds" of fluff that accumulated once I tried to scrape/wipe the stuff off. 2. the photos are kind of bright-- the fluff is actually more of a medium brown color than it appears, and there is a thin film of the fluff covering most of the caudex (I'm learning new terms!) and especially in the crevices of the scales. 3. Although with the photos all enlarged you would think otherwise, the stuff really isn't THAT easy to detect until you rub some of it off, and the caudex (under the fluff) is super-firm and the branches are still deep green and very spiky-- no wilting (except for the patches of fronds that I have cut off). Also, no black spots anywhere, which is what most of the rot pictures I could find looked like. I've been on every website I could find (and thank you for the links-- very informative), but I couldn't find a description of this stuff or any pictures of plants that look like mine does, so I'm having trouble diagnosing the problem. Does it look like rot? I'm stumped.
