1 Pendant Light or 3 Pendant Lights from Ceiling
Comments (18)For the uplight, you could go a few routes, especially with respect to dimming functionality. And some fixtures don't support dimming, so you need to figure that out. To that end, I suggest you think through the use cases. For example, the use case that I think I'd appreciate most is late evening, after you've retired to another room of the house, at which time a mellow indirect glow from the skylight cutout would be particularly pleasant. You might also want the more light from this source on occasion, in which case you'd want brighter lights on a dimmer. That being said, here's some options. I'm thinking two, centered on the skylights, mounted near the bottom rim of the cutout (just above the beam probably). Regarding the pendant, I know that selecting pendants is hard enough without more to think about, but one downside of a single pendant vs multiple pendants is thhat single sources create worse shadows. And the clear glass pendants above exacerbate this harsh shadow problem by being point sources, whereas the Fillsta, for example, mitigates this problem because it's effectively a uniform 31" sphere of light. This large diffuser also makes it possible to use a brighter source. For example, you could put a 300W equivalent CFL in the Fillsta, but such a bright light would be unacceptably harsh in a point source like the clear glass pendants above....See MoreToo big? Comments (30)This was so helpful. Yours look perfect as they are. I’m in a similar dilemma; this convinced me, go big or go home! Ive got 9’ ceilings and an 8‘6” island. I went with bronze aviary lanterns (no glass to dust!) and the lightness works despite the larger size. hubby held them up so I could see them in place, more or less. Before taking this step I thought they were too large. Don’t mind the old stools and yet-to-be refinished floors! It’s a work in progress....See MoreVanity pendant lighting - how far from wall? Recessed lights OK, too?
Comments (1)I'm not a fan of pendants dangling over a vanity area, it would be a last resort for me. Recessed, in combination with wall sconces works well. The vanity lighting need not be the only lighting in the bath, either. Recessed in the middle space of a bath, wall sconces at the roughly "head" level of 66 inches off the floor at the vanity can work well too. .........or even sconces above when it is the only option. The "rules" are lighting specs, space, style and personal need dependent. It is difficult to advise you minus a bath plan, or even a photo....See Morependant light size
Comments (4)You will need to measure the island. Here is a good guideline. So for a 16" pendant you would need an 80-88" long island (and width should be at least 32" - 40"): 8-12" on left edge + 16" pendant + 32" space between + 16" pendant + 8-12" on right edge. I have 16" pendants on my island, which is about 80" long and 54" wide. They replaced some smaller pendants and when they first went up I thought they were huge. Now I don't give them a second thought. But you do need to make sure you have space for them, so taller people don't hit their heads on them or they don't appear to visually block the space....See MoreValerie
