dyson animal 41 vac question
Comments (8)The non-ball is old, it apparently was phased out in the past 5 years because it was still out when I bought the ball one. At the time I looked for a hose and it was $60 if I recall correctly. The ball one is 5 years old. Up until last year it was used at least 2x weekly, I assume my cleaning folks were using the hose and attachments but to be honest I usually wasn't home when they were there so who knows how often they were really doing it. When I take the vacuum out myself I am usually using the hose, but to be honest I don't do much cleaning myself so maybe 1x every 2 weeks? It gets used but not by me. The way the hose works the big non-ball still works fine for many uses so even with a broken hose it is sort of ok. There is a long stick that slides into the hose to clip back to the vacuum. You can use the stick as a wand, and as such as long as the hose is partially connected to its plastic end, it still works. You would have a problem if the hose completely came off of its plastic end (but this can be solved with duct tape). The stick is good if you need the length (ceilings, drapery, under furniture, baseboards) but is a pain if you are doing something closer like upholstery or dryer vents. So the short answer is that even if the hose breaks, you can use the main part as normal or use the wand as normal as long as you can fix it with duct tape or something similar. My hose did not completely disconnect from the plastic connector. The ball doesn't turn, it's kind of like a joint that helps make the vacuum more maneuverable. So you can turn the brush off for hardwood, or on for carpet. For me, the whole process of schlepping out the big vacuum with the long cord was just too cumbersome (mind you I have a newborn so I have been pregnant/extra tired for the better part of a year). My current cleaning crew and most that I have had before use my Dysons. I had one crew that had backpack vacuums that they preferred to use. I haven't owned any other upright vacuums as an adult so I don't have much to compare to. I got my first shedding dog within a month of moving into my own place and that was the best vacuum on the market for dog hair at the time. My husband had an upright of some sort before we were married and he gladly gave it up when we merged households. $250 is a great price and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it at that price point! I think we paid $350 for the first one on special at Home Depot and similar for the second on a Black Friday deal....See MoreDyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal+
Comments (2)So no answer :( Well any opinion as to the flimsiness of the dyson on a ball rather than on 4 wheels? The ball swivel is completely new to me. I think I will buy the Dyson cinetic big ball animal+, if I hate it Costco has a really good return policy. Other reviews I have seen have been generally good, even though I know their are a lot of people that don't like dysons. Fingers crossed Harlow...See MoreDyson Cordless Vacuums
Comments (37)recordaras - both my Miele upstairs & downstairs canisters have the electric motorized carpet head and they work quite well. We have some faux oriental rugs in the kitchen, made of olefin (well, they are in the kitchen LOL) that grab and hold dog hair like nobody's business. My old beloved Hoover Wind Tunnel upright can't even pick it up. So I usually rub the carpets with sole of my shoe to get the hair or ball up, then hit it with the upright. Yesterday, I used my Miele canister carpet head and OMG the stuff came right up! Our son needs a new vac and put it in his Xmas wish list. I really wanted to get him a Sebo 'Felix', but there are no authorized service centers nowhere near him. No way is he going to ship anything anywhere for repair or whatever, especially with the long hours he works. So we bought him the Miele canister that Costco has online. I hope he likes it! * * *. It is so nice to have a support group for my vacuum cleaner addiction. All seven of them. LOL!!! Each one has a dedicated job. The best of the lot is the Panasonic canister vac I bought 30+ years ago. That motor refuses to die! It has lived in the basement/garage for ages and has even sucked up crud from the bottom of an outdoor grill. Kenmore bags still fit it, it takes a lickin' and keeps on ticking. (and if you are of a certain age, you will remember that old commercial.... :-))...See MoreRecommendation for a cordless stick vacuum
Comments (18)I bought the Dyson 11 in December. There are pros and cons. The pros are that it is amazing on dog fur. It fills up even when you think your rugs are generally clean. It is also great on small grit and things of that nature. I can see it being perfect for my beach cottage. Now the cons: If you formerly had a bag vacuum, than you may be bugged by how often you have to stop and empty the collection chamber. I have three dogs, so it is usually after a couple of rooms. Sometimes less, but more often than I would like. Second con: It really isn't very good about picking up more substantial items, like, a piece of dry dog food, or a small twig, or a whole leaf. My old vacuum was an Electrolux and it picked up everything without pause. The Dyson 11 is far less effective with that. Third con: Occasionally the filter will clog (the sensor display will tell you.) You have to remove it and wash it under the faucet and let it dry 24 hours. Of course this happens when you are only halfway through your cleaning. You can buy a spare, but they aren't cheap. All in all, the Dyson 11 is a great vacuum, but in my opinion, it has annoying limitations....See Morelocaleater
