Does trash (plastic, metal, etc) turn into compost eventually?

I have a question regarding trash landfills (stuff that can't be recycled). If you read this article, it explains what happens inside a landfill:

https://www.livescience.com/32786-what-happens-inside-a-landfill.html

Once a landfill is seal and plants are planted above it, what happens to all that trash buried underground? Say 100 or 1000 year from now? The article states: "Landfills are not designed to break down waste, only to store it, according to the NSWMA. But garbage in a landfill does decompose, albeit slowly and in a sealed, oxygen-free environment."

I understand that plastic turns into micro-plastics, etc. But will all that stuff eventually turn into usable compost for plants at some point in the future... let's say 10,000 years from now? Or will it be gone only when the sun consumes the earth billion years from now?
