Wood look tile doesn’t belong in the tub. Even typing that out makes me cringe.

If you want wood look tile,I’d lay it on the floor like your inspo (but no herringbone, too busy in a small space). Yes to marble or a porcelain faux marble everywhere else. You can introduce warm woods on the vanity, mirror surround, floating shelves.

Unless you are building a Sauna, there should not be any wood (or wood look products) on the walls of your tub or shower. Of course you can do it if you want, but anyone who sees it will wonder why you used floor tile on your tub/shower walls.

Farmhouses don't have marble.

Hi Hannah: I was recently shopping for a client in Arizona Tile in Sun Valley, CA and they had a wood-looking porcelain tile installed in a shower display and it looked amazing! Very masculine and different. I certainly wouldn't use it for a tub tile install, but in a shower it looks cool.

I feel like everything is farmhouse now. Lets just "farmhouse" all the things and be done with it :-D My wife was looking at MCM furniture this weekend online and I noticed it was tagged farmhouse.

Inverting a normal look (wood on the walls and stone on the floor) in a WET environment is a very tricky thing to get RIGHT. The 'norm' is wood on the floor (outside the bathroom btw) and stone or tiles on the walls. This is what Joe Schmoe will expect. To flip this look is a great twist on a traditional look....but it can go horribly wrong without the talents of an avant garde designer with a nose for twisting the norm.

What I do know is this: the vast majority of men LOVE the look of wood (not all...but most). So they try to put it EVERYWHERE. And that gets weird. And heavy. And extremely difficult to deal with/live with. Be VERY aware of what you are trying to do.

A farmhouse look is sheet vinyl (peeling and faded please) with 50's tiles (pink or orange) on the wall right to the ceiling. Germany loved these green porcelain tiled glazed ceramic tiles. Farm houses throughout Germany have these olive green tiles throughout the space dating from the 1820's or so.

Or you have slabs of chipped slate (stuff you found in the fields...aka field stone) on the floors with huge grout lines + some sort of tile on the walls...or just white washed wattle and daub.

I definitely wouldn't have wood-look tile because it has hit its peak, has been overdone, and will start looking dated soon (if it isn't already). In addition, the look of wood near a shower is discordant. And finally, the two materials simply don't look good together in that application.

Take a look at the bathrooms below that has the wood look tile in the shower and or walls. I personally like it as it's a bit unexpected. the tiles in the shower are in a soldier pattern, not the typical brick pattern so it gives it a bit of a more modern feel. Nothing wrong with thinking a bit outside the box.
