Help on deciding what color to paint kitchen cabinets
Comments (11)You are lucky that your cabinets are not honey oak, that orange builder-grade color. Yours actually look like they have a nice dark stain. Painting, prep, etc is a lot of work. Your other finishes are nice too, dark pulls, pretty granite. Would you consider just doing a very pretty light backsplash? If you do go with paint, be sure to use BM cabinet coat. It will help cover the grain, though probably not all. There are many posts here on GW to help you with the process. With your brown granite you might look at BM Bone White. If you are looking for whites, lean toward the warmer whites. Comments (4)Try posting this on the kitchen forum, along with a photo. It seems to get a lot more traffic. Having said that, some shade of white seems to be the most popular paint color for kitchen cabinets. You have a wood floor, great because wood is the current trend in kitchen floors. With the black appliances, not sure how the white cabinets will work. Maybe upper cabinets white, lowers in a dark gray? Using more than one color in kitchen cabinets is very popular also. I've read a lot of postings about painting honey oak cabinets, seems like we all had them, they were very popular in the 80's and 90's. (I still have my honey oak bathroom cabinets) But, there are a lot of really knowledgeable and helpful people on the kitchen forums, with great decorating talent, so try and post there and I am sure they'll have some good suggestions for you....See MoreHelp deciding which sink finish would match best in the kitchen
Comments (6)Hi Texas, It sounds like any of the 3 finishes you mentioned would look great against your neutral kitchen. I have a friend with a kitchen similar to what you describe, and the stainless farmhouse sink blends beautifully. It's very casual-looking, very understated. I have white cabs, white marble counters, and a white fireclay farmhouse sink. It looks great, but next time I'd go with a cast iron farmhouse sink with white enamel if I can find it, for the sake of durability (although I've had no problems in the past 6 weeks of using the sink). Would love to hear some opinions on copper. It sounds gorgeous, but it's a material I have no experience with as far as a design element or durability-wise. Good luck!...See MoreHelp me decide on kitchen cabinet colours by tomorrow!
Comments (15)I'm attaching pictures of the kitchen plan. I apologize for the quality. I cannot figure out how to convert this file so that can upload the pictures. I tried to enlarge them as the printout was so small and as a result the measurements are blurry. The north wall is 25'. The first 10' are the dining room and the last 15' the kitchen. I was planning on going with cabinetry all the way down the wall. As I mentioned above, when I had separated the dining cabinet from the kitchen, it just felt like a waste of space and made the spaces on either side of the cabinet look awkward. The first drawing, with the stove between two windows is what I was initially going with. After comments above, I'm rethinking this plan. I thought that I would not mind the lack of space between the sink and the stove, as I will have 3 other large areas of counter space (all over 4 ft), plus an island. I emailed the planner, and I asked her about placing the fridge where the dishwasher was, the dishwasher where the stove was and the stove where the fridge was. She felt that the fridge would look too bulky next to the dining room cabinets and supplied the other option of putting the stove next to the dining room cabinets. I'm not really fond of this idea, as there would still only be about 15 inches to the left of the stove. Actually I think this makes the counter space more broken up and choppy than my original plan. The other thing I don't like about this plan is that it has shortened my dining room cabinets by about 15 inches. I will have a 9ft island and the side of the island was to line up with start of the dining room in option 1. I would like to hear thoughts on placing the fridge closer to the dining room and the stove on the wall where the fridge is....See Moreeam44
