Comments (8)I'd also second the recommendation for visiting the Living Desert Botanic Garden/Zoo if you are more interested in horticultural desert plants as opposed to seeing natives, and the Anza Borrega State Park may be worth investigating for desert wild flowers as well. Is it perhaps a bit too early for the best wildflower show in the higher elevation Joshua Tree National Monument? Taking the tram up to the top of San Jacinto Mountain is also an interesting experience....See MoreChristmas Palm In the GTA
Comments (14)I have definitely noticed that when Christmas palms are available around here, they are really big (not sure why). I purchased a planting of three smaller ones on ebay (doing well at about 3 feet or so). A second larger planting (at 4.5 feet), I found standing amid a HD forest of Majesty palms--I grabbed it! HD being what it is, I was advised by the checkout clerk NOT to buy it because the tips were shedded off. Apparently thinking that this normal feature of the plant was the work of pair of scissors--I just smiled and said thank you. P.S.: In the past I have really had trouble overwintering this particular species. Taking the advice of a board poster, I planted mine in a very sandy soil (excellent drainage) and I watch never to really let them dry out. (These can start browning quickly without giving too many signs of drought.)--So far they are doing great and growing actively!...See Morewhat's a palm addict want for christmas?
Comments (41)Austin1...I dont grow palms in the ground. Its too much trouble. LOL, I am not sure if you have seen my palms or not, but the few I have are getting to be over 6 to 9 foot with most having some trunk. I think I have 4 with trunks. All the robies have 3 foot of trunk. Sorry no trachs, sables, or needles. :-)...See MoreTerrible vacation. Need Hotel recommendations for Palm Springs area?
Comments (21)Thanks guys! It has been a terrible vacation, but still nice to see my father. I was really sick and am just now feeling better. The plumbers that were out there all day Friday seemed incompetent and I think they weren’t plumbers but were technicians who only know how to unclog drains. Chispa- Thanks! I think a home is a better choice for extended periods of time. We considered La Quinta Resort, but everytime we go to eat there, there are so many people and children. We just wanted peace. And it’s nice to have a kitchen and w/d, plus a pool. The house is like it’s own little compound. It’s walled off by high shrubs and completely private. ....See Morecarolb_w_fl_coastal_9b
