I know of some large three trunk ones that are $199 if your interested.

There is a home depot at kennedy/steeles in brampton that is selling a 3 tree pot. They are even willing to rent a truck free of charge just to get rid of it. Also try Terra Greenhouses. I just bought a 6 foot queen palm for 5$! What a steal!

Yeah I'm looking for something definately under $100. I just want a smaller tree.
A 6ft queen for 5 bucks is amazing. I'll have to check out terra. I bought a 4ft zebrina banana from terra a couple of years ago for $5 as well. It looked like it was a few days away from death so they were selling it cheap. Its looked great ever since getting it home.
Where are you planning to put that queen palm?

I am going to pot it up and bring it outdoors this summer. I'll see how tall it gets. If it gets too tall, I have a spot beside my entrance way that has a window over the front door (approx 15'). I was at Milton store last Friday, and they had a several queens available for 5$ and others as well. I love this company as they always have healthy plants and great prices.

Protempsfish..Do they have alot of other tropicals at this terra place? I'm in London is it worth a drive down to Milton or Burlington what other palm species do they have and what other Banana species do they have.

I have definitely noticed that when Christmas palms are available around here, they are really big (not sure why). I purchased a planting of three smaller ones on ebay (doing well at about 3 feet or so). A second larger planting (at 4.5 feet), I found standing amid a HD forest of Majesty palms--I grabbed it! HD being what it is, I was advised by the checkout clerk NOT to buy it because the tips were shedded off. Apparently thinking that this normal feature of the plant was the work of pair of scissors--I just smiled and said thank you. P.S.: In the past I have really had trouble overwintering this particular species. Taking the advice of a board poster, I planted mine in a very sandy soil (excellent drainage) and I watch never to really let them dry out. (These can start browning quickly without giving too many signs of drought.)--So far they are doing great and growing actively!

Isn't there some kind of giant bazaar (for lack of a better word) an hour outside of Windsor? They have palnts and palms for sale rides for kids and other shops. I forget what its called.

Thats colassanti's gardens (I don't know if I spelled it right). If you start researching into the small bananas that many grocery stores sell labeled as "banana plant" you'll find that those plants all come from colassantis. At least, thats the case around here. I've never been and the website only has information on the stuff for kids. Nothing really mentioned about the tropical plants.

Thats quite a find at a HD. I'll have to pay more attention to the sections filled with Majesty Palms.

Also on the note of soil drainage: I don't know if this is a good idea or not but I usually mix orchid mix with potting soil for plants and bananas. The orchid mix is usually charcoal and various barks and stones so its very fast draining.

Colassanti's is not as good as it used to be. In fact, I bought many of my palms from there, including a 4 trunked christmas palm for 13 dollars. Every time I go back now, I am quite dissapointed with their palm selection and it is no longer worth the drive for palms, that is. I usually do see christmas palms at Canadian tire in the the spring, but have not seen them this year. Of course they are never labelled so you will have to know it when you see it.

I was at Terra last Friday and they were having a sale on majesties. Jeff, I would probably call and ask them what they have in stock before driving, but it is definitely worth a trip. I dont know who does the purchasing at Terra but they always seem to be over stocked! I agree with njoasis as I have been searchin for a smaller Christmas palm to no avail. I am taking a trip to Florida and will hopefully find what I am looking for!

Majesties are not that that bad. I have had the current one for some time now (fingers crossed). They can be somewhat prone to scale indoors, so I try to flush the leaves outside with the hose every few weeks over winter. Right now mine is sitting alone in an eastern winter. Come to the conclusion they look better and are healthier when they don't have to sit next to other plants. As far as availability goes, I do notice that a few years ago my local HD used to carry a really nice variety of palms, more recently though, it does seem like a monoculture of Majesties. My local Lowe's however has been carrying a wonder variety of incredibly priced palms (spindle, triangle, foxtail, chamaedorea, fishtail, Chinese fans etc).--Bought the solitary foxtail specimen there.

njoasis-where do you live? We just had a Lowes open up in Brampton. In Florida, I was impressed with the selection and prices of their tropcials and palms, but the Lowes that opened here have even less than the local Home Depots.I found that home Depots don't vary too much from thge US to Canada but I was very dissapointed with Lowes in Canada. The best buy I ever rolled the dice on was a 5 foot triangle from a guy on ebay that lives in Texas. He shipped it to me in January BAREROOT! This was 2 years ago and it is now sitting in my front window looking fantastic.
