flooring in desert Southwest
Comments (19)Cheryl, what's going on with your floors? What did you decide? We are in Tucson for the winter and spring. This week we put in laminate floors in 3 bedrooms. Looks and feels great. I did something brave. I ordered relatively expensive white laminate floor for the master bedroom. Looks like narrowish very whitewashed wood. Pergo brand, I think. We installed Costco Harmonics brand laminate in bedrooms and it looks great. I was talking to a Lowes installer who loves harmonics brand and has done many of them. He is also some kind of troubleshooter. Fancy credentialed guy. My ankles hurt last night so I am thinking of laminate for the kitchen. Ceramic hurts. Do polished concrete? As mentioned, my realtor (an experienced, smart and wise lady) looooves polished concrete. I think that hw in the southwest has an unwarranted bad rap and peeps just repeat the same unfounded stories. Just an inkle in my inkled mind. Take good care, Cheryl....See MoreAnyone Familiar With Mannington Maison Collection?
Comments (7)These are all valid points. I like to see a single carton purchased if the client can't visualize the whole thing. But then you run into delays. Remember: a man-made floor (like engineered flooring) has a shelf-life of about 18 - 24 months. That means it is created, sold and then discontinued inside of 2 years. If you are working with older samples (your vendor is carrying a line that is from a year or so ago) then you should have them ask the manufacturer the time line for discontinuation. If the manufacturer is honest, then they will tell the vendor they plan to have the line "finish" in "X" amount of time. If you are ready to pull the trigger, you might want to make sure you are working from NEW stock...and not something the retailer is helping to put on "clearance" (ie....really good price) because of limited stock and mixed dye lots. Be VERY careful with old stock. This is also a very good reason to order a few boxes TOO MUCH - you will never find repair material in 5 years when the dishwasher lets go or when the tree comes crashing through your front window. Always have a few boxes in storage for that one day where a large repair (50+ square feet) is required....See MoreBaroque wood floors?

Comments (9)The first example Jan posted is European White Oak. Those oak species are different than north American white oak. They don't have the open grain. The grain is tighter. They are less yellow. Look for European or French Oak. Those products will help you avoid yellow, orange and red....See Morechrysalids
