Eastside Fuchsia Show
Comments (29)zzepherdogg, thank you for the compliment of attributing to me far greater knowledge of hardy fuchsias than I possess :-) Unfortunately, my experience with these great plants is limited to the ones I grow personally and to those I bring in to sell at the nursery and they tend to be the relatively more common forms and those that exhibit reliable hardiness in our climate. It is interesting to see the hardiness values attributed to these plants by various fuchsia sites. I think we in the PNW enjoy a pretty benign climate rather well suited to growing a lot of hardy fuchsias but not all will make it with the same degree of vigor. Interestingly, both Double Otto and Lord Byron are listed by most sources as half hardy (whatever that means) but I know folks that have grown DO with ease. My feeling is that if you admire the plant regardless of listed hardiness, grow it, but until you are sure of its establishment and reliablity, it may be prudent to provide winter protection. The loss will not break the bank and you could very well be rewarded with a tough, great performing addition to your garden....See MoreAnyone used Coretec?
Comments (3772)Check all the pieces from Coretec before installation! We had a Palo Alto Walnut Coretec floor installed in August. As they were getting ready to install the T-moulding I realized the color was off. Also it was supposed to be skimmed in the same pattern as the planking but wasn't. They didn't install it. The quarter round was also off but similar enough in color that we agreed to keep it. FIVE MONTHS later Coretec informed the installer that Palo Alto Walnut is discontinued and we won't be getting the T-moulding. Back to square one. I am so frustrated. My guess is that they are outsourcing the trim pieces without telling anyone. Someone mentioned that Shaw bought Coretec....See MoreExperiences on Moduleo embellish ?
Comments (69)I feel the need to comment on this brand. We recently contracted our home, and were very careful to select high quality elements. When it came to flooring we knew hardwood was the way to go, but it simply was not practical for our family. We have multiple dogs and small children so we wanted something durable. Our floor installer suggested LVP and after much research on Moduleo Embellish we decided it would be great due to its low maintenance and durability and the fact that it was resistant to scratching. We increased the cost by adding high quality padding under the floor to help with moisture and foundation imperfections (we live in south Louisiana so foundation issue are always a concern). We have been in our home for over a month and I am EXTREMELY disappointed. The floor itself is beautiful. However it is anything but scratch resistant. Not just large pieces of furniture scratch the floor, but chairs, bar stools, children's toys....everything. Additionally, the floors are consistently becoming unsnapped and we did have the floor professionally installed. Evidently, because the planks are so thin and the pad thick, the give of the pad as you walk on it is enough for the planks to move and pop out of place. We have had the floor installer come out twice to fix this problem in certain places. After buying 2800 sq feet of flooring and padding, we ended up spending similar to what we would spend on hardwood. However, we overlooked this fact thinking the durability would pay for itself. In the month we have lived in the home we have had to buy a professional weighted floor roller to put planks back in place. Additionally we have had to experiment with different floor cleaners and refinishers to find a way to hide the numerous scratches. we spent $20,000 on this floor so changing it out anytime soon is not an option. Before this I have lived in a home with tile and laminate. I hate to say it, but I was happier with the much cheaper laminate flooring!...See MoreIs vinyl flooring REALLY used in high end houses?
Comments (49)Your worry is about leaks in the pipes that damage any wood floors. So, get a whole house leak detector and get the hardwood - engineered or otherwise. I just ordered this: https://www.phyn.com/product/ . The other one that is highly recommended is Flo by Moen. They detect leaks through pressure changes and typical water usage. Also under the dishwasher put a dishwasher drip pan and buy a dishwasher that has a water shut off if it detects a leak. The drip pan channels the water to the front of the DW so that you will see the water before damage is done. https://www.amazon.com/Eastman-EZF70486-70486-Dishwasher-Black/dp/B00WQRKDNY/ref=asc_df_B00WQRKDNY/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167125770928&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2371089925326721163&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9032027&hvtargid=pla-312054148738&psc=1 I just installed 1700 sq ft of engineered flooring and I don't want to do it again due to water leaks. So I am doing the above. If there was a pan for the refrigerator, I would put one there too. But, the leak detector should solve most of my worries. I live in East Bay and houses move and I was told that engineered wood can tolerate that better than hardwood. In the laundry I installed vinyl planks which I have to say, I really love as it is super easy to clean up, no worries about water damage. It is a gray plank and weirdly I have gotten compliments from neighbors thinking it was "real wood"......See Morearlandria
