save up until you can match the same hardwood. in the interim, get a piece of carpeting that acts as a rug (check remnant rolls. you can have the edges bound for a $100 or so). finding something almost as big as the room would work. (if you try and find an area rug in that large of a size, it will cost as much if not more than a remnant rug) why don't you paint that floor? plenty of how to's online Paint it w/a solid base color, and then you could do any type of rug you like. as for the rest of the room. whites, creams (no almond...off white yes, but nothing too yellow) grays, even black. I like black w/brick. paint your linoleum a dark, deep charcoal. find a fluffy white area rug or remnant. paint out the windows black or do some black trim work. look on craigslist for people trying to unload wood flooring leftovers. do your ceiling with it! Wood, black, white and brick look fab together. Ideas... white ceiling and walls, sheer floor to ceiling drapes, your futon could look like this platform bed. then check ikea for the glossy enamel media unit or console. Hate this brick w/these laminate floors, so don't copy that part. thinking of whitewashing? paint everything a bright white (eggshell) do a light lime wash over the brick if you like.

Hi - do yourself a huge favour. Forget ‘undertones’. Forget ‘only certain colours work for specific points of the compass.’ You can have colours from *EVERY* Hue Family for every point of the compass. The secret? Finding the best partnership of Value (lightness) + Chroma (degree of colour) to fit with the quality of light you have available. More colourful colours do better in lower light settings, than more neutral colours. Their extra kick of Chroma is what helps bust through any tendency to gloom. So more colourful greens are what you are after. Also more dimly lit spaces do well with light + colourful, dark + colourful or just dark colours. Leave the mid Value near neutrals for more moderately lit spaces. You can compare the Value + Chroma of greens for free, via The Land of Color, Color DNA Table. Some examples for you to consider? F&B Bancha. BM Mountain Lane PPG Mountain Forest But they still need viewing in situ. Paint chips or painted samples. Your northern light quality is specific and likely different to someone elses. So it’s always worth testing/viewing your shortlist. You can find greens from different Hue Families too. (again see the Color DNA Table) Yellow Green-Yellow Green Blue-Green Which Family of greens are you most drawn to? Which work better with your fixed finishes? Colours from this zone have the capacity to shift and appear more blueish in certain imbalanced lighting. They aren’t blue & don’t have blue ‘undertones.’ If they shift in your room and appear that way, try greens from a different Hue Family. This colour shift occurs more in muted greens and you after something more colourful. But at least you know what to look out for when testing. #shifthappens #green #north #south #east #west

IDK if I'd do Simply White. Gorgeous white, but IMO probably too bright against cherry. Moonlight White is the next one down on that strip -- try that one instead, but I wonder if you need something other than white to complement the cherry and play nice with the St. Cecelia granite.

Here is the dining room from each side. I took the leaves off the ends of the table. The distance from head of the table to the pink wall is 34”. If I put a chair at the head of the table (with 2 chairs down each long side) there is a 19” space between the back of the chair and the pink wall. This is because of the table leg style that prevents the chair from tucking under. When the leafs are on the table, the gap between the chair at the head of the table and the pink wall is 16”. This is surely not enough space for a credenza along the pink wall regardless of the chair placement? What do you think? Perhaps no chair and a very slim credenza might work since. The height to the bottom of the window frame is just under 31”. Would a credenza work here? There is 45” from the back on the side chairs to the window wall. I am yet to find any pictures of dining rooms where the credenza has its backside visible…they are always against a wall so I assume a credenza on the other 2 (open) sides of the room isn’t an option. Although I’d LOVE to section off the entryway somehow I don’t expect a credenza is the way to do it. Before we installed the light fixture I’d did try the table rotated through 90degrees but it looked really odd (even though the space is square).
