Building a Home Porches & Decks

Trying to visualize roof line with full front porch

Hello! It's been several years since I've posted! We're building and the plans are finalized. It's a ranch style home with large garage, and a full length finished basement. We're keeping it pretty simple.
There will be a full length front porch, 60 feet. The porch will be 8 feet in depth. The roof will a straight, A line, meaning there won't be a bend. I'm not quite sure how to describe that. I'm trying to visualize how this will look, but almost every house with a deep porch has a bend in the roof. I'm having trouble visualizing this. Could you share a photo of a home with a full length, deep porch and a roof with no bend?
I'm attaching a rough drawing of our home as well as an example of a "roof with a bend". I'd also love to learn the technical terms because I clearly have no clue!

If you are building and the plans are finalized, why are you asking?

8' is not a deep porch.

May I suggest adding a couple of windows to the garage, removing the gable over the front door, spreading your porch posts out and eliminating 2 of them, and if not already planned, making the posts go to a visible beam.

Here is a before picture of the house, you can see where we enclosed the breezeway btw house & garage (although garage is not in this shot). I'm a visual person and need to see sketches before I can make any decisions :) My husband has brought up the deck idea as well and we are far enough from the road that I think zoning would allow (but would obviously check first). Our two issues with that are the chimney and the exhaust for our boiler (I think that's what it is) comes out right behind the chimney. Any thoughts & ideas are greatly appreciated, this stuff makes my head spin!

Great Question - two reasons really. #1 - Aesthetically there are no other curved lines on the entire front elevation and we were attempting to keep with that theme and remove any radius from a curved copper radius. #2 - Neither my wife nor I are big fans of the color of copper when it's new (for this application) or when it ages and creates a new patina (you can't really control the color nor the end product appearance) so we'd rather go with a spot-on color match to the windows/flashing/gutters, etc. because over time the color scheme of the front house stays just like it was when we first build it. hmmm i agree on the idea of using what you have with those diagonal posts. one thing i think we all need to see is how the house would look like without the landscape covering up the front as it is hard to tell when we only have the 1 photo , if you do decide to remove the landscape it would give us all a better picture of how the facade would look and what may compliment it.

Oh my goodness!!! @PPF this is amazing!! I am so thankful that you made this drawing, and that is exactly what I was looking for. All I had to go by to visualize the outside was that drawing. We did add windows to the garage, and I will chat with the builder about your other wonderful suggestions. Thank you so much again!

Hopefully you don't live anywhere with high winds - where that integral roof line will act as a sail to pull the whole roof off.

It depends on the pitch of your roof. You need much more detailed drawings to be able to see if the roof will interfere by coming down too low. You cannot make that decision until then.

You will need more info and look at the project as a whole to see how an integral porch will look, depth of roof span + roof pitch needed.

Either way the roof won’t get sucked away from wind uplift if engineered correctly, otherwise integral porches would be banned in Miami-Dade County.
