Creative cabinet door solutions?
Comments (17)What I would do is remove the drawer & door. Then cut the rail away from the stiles on both sides. On the left side, pocket screw & glue a vertical piece of wood to the left hand stile (scrape paint for the glue to bond) to increase the width of the stile, wide enough to allow a new (narrower & taller) replacement door to swing open. You will lose a drawer and the opening will be smaller but you'll still have better access to that blind corner cabinet. You could opt to keep the drawer in which case you'd not cut away the rail and use two vertical attachments to the stile for a more narrow replacement door & drawer. Finding an exact match for the door will be tough. If you know the cabinet brand, check to see if you can get a new door in the dimensions that you need for the altered cab. Or maybe you can have a cabinet shop build one. Otherwise, you could just go with a raised panel door for a close but not exact match. Paint all the new stuff to match. Another option might be to use a shutter for the replacement door...perhaps one of those old style shutters that had fabric inserts. Or just a fabric skirt to cover the opening...See MoreGet creative....Sound solutions to mask a tinkle
Comments (61)A draft stopper under the door will help, too. This kind is fabric and consists of two tubes filled with hard foam tubes, one on either side of the door bottom, with a flat piece of fabric between them that goes under the door. The tubes actually sit on the floor and slide along the floor as the door is opened and closed. If there is carpeting, the slippery nylon of the one in this picture works better than other fabric, I would guess. https://www.ebay.com/i/274343357106?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=274343357106&targetid=884652277561&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9016837&poi=&campaignid=9426322279&mkgroupid=92907991862&rlsatarget=pla-884652277561&abcId=1141016&merchantid=138376934&gclid=CjwKCAjw_LL2BRAkEiwAv2Y3SSdY3Qtwofu1K_ojes8lvu-Kk9E0BS9IORAb82QcHoER5TBwW9tlkRoCSMAQAvD_BwE...See MoreFunky Stairs need Hand Rail Ideas
Comments (48)I understand that OP needs it to be cheap until closing because this is a lender requirement (not unusual) and if it is fixed before closing, it becomes a fixture and stays with the property even if the buyer doesn't close. CONSIDER: A solution to this would be a rehab type loan rather than the typical purchase loan. Benefit to the buyer is they don't need to resort to expensive hard money type loan as mentioned up thread. Also it gives the buyer the TIME to figure out a permanent solution. The buyer can close right away on a rehab loan. The disadvantage to a rehab loan is that the interest rate is slightly higher than your typical purchase mortgage. Comments (17)I suspect that there is no flooring on the back edge of the vent. So someone caulked in a sorry attempt to hide a bit of visible subfloor. IMO, scribing the base to the floor isn't all that difficult. But it can be time consuming. It is faster & easier & cheaper for the pros to just slap some shoe mould down vs the cost of labor to scribe the base. (Back bevel the bottom of the base if it appears there is quite a bit of material that needs to be removed.) I would remove the base & set it lower. Touch up the wall paint before reinstalling. And fill in the floor behind the vent if what I suspect is happening re: the caulk...if it is going to show when the base is set lower....See MoreJeffrey R. Grenz, General Contractor
