Landscape Design garden

What kind of grass is this?

We recently had pictures done and the grass at the park was really cool and I would love some in our back yard. Can anyone help me out. We are in Iowa if that helps. The first in a picture now and the other is from the summer. I thought maybe saccharum ravennae??

Seedheads do not look correct for Saccharum. Also a little too compact for ravenna grass as well....it can easily grow to 8-12' tall. I'd suspect some sort of Miscanthus but it is too indistinct and crowded to nail down a specific variety.

Yes on the miscanthus suggestion, probably an older variety since the newer ones tend to grow as tight clumps Your best bet would be to visit a garden center next spring and chose one based on the height and spread you're interested in.

You last 2 pictures are of KBG. I can't really tell what's going on in your initial post, the grass is shriveled up so I can't see the blades clearly.

Looks like annual rye ....or some type of winter annual. Either way, it will die off in the heat. You can get rid of it quicker by shutting the water off for a couple of weeks and mowing short. The "water starvation" will not harm the bermuda.

Yes,miscanthus. And there are many varieties. Do your homework. Ideally they look best if cut back in early spring before new growth begins. Not completely "carefree" but beautiful .
