The space doesn't appear terribly large. What is the depth of the room from the sofa wall to the opening on the opposite side?

I found small room decor like yours. You can try to move chairs facing each other.

I think this rug would work well with your current furnishings. It's leather and wool. If you want to introduce some color, borrow from art that you have. I chose the Poet's Walk by Lorraine Christie, as an example (because I like it) and brought the burnt orange from the print onto the sofa to give the room a little heat. Naturally, you'll have to choose art that you like.

The round cocktail table repeats the circles from your chairs and gives a geometric wink to your entry area rug. The marble top gives a little luster and the style is in keeping with the mid century styling of your sofa and side table. The brass base works well with your floor lamp.

I would like to suggest an alternate furniture arrangement: chairs angled before the windows, sofa on back wall and a credenza on the wall where the sofa is. This arrangement imparts a bit more intimacy, in my mind. The credenza provides storage for favorite books, board games, special items - what have you. Topped with art, it provides a focal point for the room. The plus is that everyone seated can enjoy the art!

Thank you Manon, Celerygirl, and Everdebz- the circular table idea is fantastic. I may consider changing up the layout too. Currently on the wall with the sofa, i have 3 shelves containing decor and a large photo of my boys when they were little so i purposely didn’t want to show that on Houzz (and i couldn’t figure out how to edit out/hide their faces). I’m going to search for some of the components you suggested. Thank you all so much!!!

I much prefer the layout with the sofa on wall facing windows and chairs opposite the sofa as Manon pointed out. A slim console on long wall with art and a pair of lamps would be very welcoming. Once you make that change then figure out size and shape of any coffee table. Don’t overload the room. You might only need a pair if nesting tables for coffee table and one wedge table for between chairs

You could go with anything. Everything in the room is neutral. Pick a rug out with some color. Do you have any color anywhere in the house? I would pick a rug that has some coordinating colors from the other parts of the house.

Thanks Nena, Flo and Linda. I’m def starting with a rug in a light color. I love the floors Nena! They are a bit darker than i anticipated, but I’m embracing them. So far, they are functioning as I’d hoped and truly have changed the feel of our home. Thank you!

celerygirl, I meant I liked the layering you did, though not repeating the soft green in the chair, but blue might be OP's thing, more so.

@djb10 I am also looking at this flooring. The samples I have look WAY darker. Do you think the floor is dark overall or more of a medium tone with some dark boards?

Carrie- i would put this floor into a medium category. There are variations in color between the boards and also the lengths of the boards so the look is great. To me- this floor doesn’t pull warm or dark, it’s neutral to me.

Do you have pets? How is it for hiding dirt/hair/dust etc? I really love some of these photos and now I am wondering if I should order a box.

We have a dog who is hypoallergenic and doesn’t shed. We have not seen any scratch marks at all and the floor was installed in October. It’s not as easy at hiding dust as a lighter floor would be but because this flooring is a matte finish and not a shine, that helps. We vacuum/dust about once a week since our dog still tracks in tiny leafs and grass. Hope that helps.

Old post. Any progress?

Actually no. I finally found a rug that pulled things together, but it was too small. I planned to return in and Covid happened. In the dining room opposite this room, i tried ordering two different tables (finally found one i liked) and it came damaged and so did the next one. Ugh! I want to buy local so i don’t have to worry about shipping but haven’t found anything i love yet. Oh well. Card table in the dining room for now. I won’t settle.
