Why does my radicchio look like green lettuce?
Comments (3)It will redden after first frost. Since you may not have a first frost, it will stay greenish-reddish - and more bitter than those that get frosted. It is a matter of taste, I like it equally, frost-sweet or bitter. In its bitter state it is medicinally a lot more powerful (helps your liver more). Radicchio is really optimal for zone 8 or 9, minimal frosts, but frosts. Michigan radicchio, around Xmas just before it keels over, it may be small because of the short season and cold temps, but it is the sweetest. There are self-heading varieties that I think have inferior taste, and I suspect that the tasteless heads you find in stores are of that type, grown somewhere near the Rio Grande or in Salinas....See MoreWhy does my pitcher plant look like it's dying?
Comments (4)It's not good using any groundwater to water carnivorous plants. Your best bet would be to use distilled or rainwater. Groundwater, such as that from a natural spring, contains dissolved minerals within it. As for the damaged pitchers, as long as they're not completely brown, then I would just leave them for the time being. They will still continue to photosynthesize (which is still a carnivorous plant's primary source of energy), and help it grow newer pitchers to replace them with. Just as you said, there is already a new pitcher growing. Which is always a good sign. Your plant will recover, just give it some time, and plenty of sunshine....See MoreWhy does my orchid look like this? (After pruning)
Comments (7)Hi Jane, I will update with pics ASAP. It's just in the one pot. The pot I had before repotting was smaller, and it looked like the roots were smashed up in there. The mix is all bark with just a tiny bit of moss. I believe it's a Miracle Gro mix, but the moss was there when I first got the plant. It sits in a small container of stones that I keep wet. I had it outside, out of indirect sunlight, but in an area where it should be getting light. I just recently brought it in. It's now on the mantle, facing a window that gets a lot of afternoon light. The pot does have drainage, and I'm not sure about the deepness because some of the roots are coming out above the mix. It's kind of just sitting in the pot, with some of the bark mix around, and just a little on top. Not too much under it. Also, there was a lot more miss wrapped around the roots when I bought it, but I recently removed some because it seemed like it was always staying wet around that area....See MoreWhy does my tropical succulent look like this?
Comments (9)I've grown them fine indoors 'til they got too big for my space. Yours looks like it sunburned & yes, planted too deep. They're not succulents at all, their thinnish leaves really do burn as you learned. These plants need abundant watering, since they're tropical. I'd make sure the soil is fast draining, add a pebble tray & to keep such color, give it maximum light you can but w/ GRADUAL exposure so as not to burn it again....See MoreUser
