In my case, it was the defrost cycle. The defrost cycle would raise the freezer compartment temperature to 35-38 F. If your ice cream is not affected, might be because the ice bin is in the way.

That, or the bin wasn't below freezing when first ice was made, so it melted a bit then refroze. But the defrost cycle sounds plausible too.

Here are the most likely reasons

• Water overflowed from the icemaker - Could be caused by refrigerator or icemaker not being level.
• Water tube to icemaker not fully sitting in water reciever for icemaker.
• Door was left open or nor closing completely causing partial melt This would cause melt at the front of the container.
• Defrost stays on too long. - most likely this would happen to the cubes in the back of the container.
• Harvesting too soon with partially froze cubes.

Thanks - I guess a couple of these I can check. It wasn’t a door open issue because this is a continuous problem. Of those options my gut is defrost cycle too long. Might that explain why food gets kind of icy quickly?

At 20 years old I hate to dump money into these things, but I can’t find anything to fit the space so I guess I’ll make another call if needed.
