New shower system from Laticrete

" Actually I think he's touting that laticrete now has come out with their own schluter drain. Other liquid waterproofing products have been used in conjunction with the schluter drain, not to mention the plain jane low tech clamping drain for a while now. Nothing wrong with that in my book, a new player in a sector. I think that's good. But I also do find it interesting when sometimes people say X is the best. So if they are going to publically make that claim, I guess I'd like a little more information, like why is hydroban "the best" and not aquadefense or any number of other products. At boards like this where most are DIY types, one 'professional' can sway a lot of people if for no other reason than "Mr XYZ said so". The largest problem with most jobs isn't that the product failed, rather the installer failed. I think it's great that professionals share information with DIY types, but for a variety of reasons, most pros tend to get stuck on only one product. A great example is shluter's membrane, more commonly known by the marketing term, "kerdi". A lot of people tout that, yet either don't know or for whatever reason, don't mention the fine line of nobel's products that IIRC, were out there long before shluter's were. So people of no information just go off what very few people say and they don't know they don't have the whole story of their options. So why is hydroban the best and not aquadefense again? ;) "I don't understand the excitement over someone using a couple of exclamation marks in their replies to other posters. But that's just me. " It may just be me, but I've never seen him use exclamation marks and to have him use it at the end of what looked (to me) like a marketing thing. But I guess I've never seen him giddy. "What specifically do you think Bill's "attachment" is with Laticrete? " I do believe there is a family attachment, but that may just be me. And not to say that means anything in any way, shape or form, but I just thought it was interesting. So how is kerdi better than dal/nobleseal? A lot of people seem to think so based upon what they have read on the internet, so I guess I'm just asking questions. I found this thread by accident as I was searching for something about laticrete, so I'm also here by accident. Just thought I'd toss out some additional input for the DIY people....See Moreroman collection desert tan diamond glass tile
Comments (3)Isn't it gorgeous? I actually got a small sample of it from Dal-tile, but the sample has pale green, cream, light mocha and medium mocha glass tiles mixed in with varied cream shades of travertine, so it really pops beautifully. Unfortunately, THAT color came in at $50 a tile, which is just stupid crazy expensive, even for an accent. I couldn't find a bargain on that exact color, and believe me, I've looked! I'm going to be so over budget I can't justify the expense, so when I found the same tile (albeit a more neutral color) for such a great price, I was all over it. Same question, though. Does anyone have any experience with cutting this? Durability? My idea to remove the glass pieces from the edges and substitute with the travertine to avoid the need to crazy glue every cut edge? Too labor intensive to expect my tile guy to do?...See MoreEnduroshield on shower glass?
Comments (24)It just seems like the warranty is nothing to write home about. It’s not transferable, they will replace or refund at their discretion, and of course it doesn’t cover removal of defective glass or installation of the newly replaced glass, and if they choose to refund (if I am understanding them correctly) they will only refund the difference in price between their glass and regular glass. I don’t know, this type of warranty is barely beneficial to the consumer. I’m not bashing the company (many/most warranties read just like theirs). So when one reads “lifetime warranty”, it seems the thought of it is better than the actual warranty itself. It always sounds great in the advertising, but in reality it’s not that great. I haven’t fully read Eduroshield’s warranty, but I assume it’s basically the same.....covers the company more than the consumer....See MoreScratched glass mosaic tiles on shower wall - please help!
Comments (23)It sounds like you’ve received some good advice re: polishing your tiles. I’m just posting a comment to let you know how beautiful your glass tile looks! I actually have this tile saved as one of my options for the wall over my vanity behind my mirrors. Q - is there any natural light in your bathroom? If so, would you mind taking a photo during the day so I can see how the tile looks with natural light? I would really appreciate it. Also - and I apologize if this seems like a strange question - did you pick out the tile or did a female? I’m asking this question in order to prove a point with my significant other. I own my house (no mortgage) - so, when we decided to live together, I didn’t want to sell it and buy something else with a mortgage. However, I originally built this house with my ex-husband - so, I’m remodeling MANY rooms in order to make it “new” (even though my ex didn’t really give much input into the house when we built it - and I only shared this house with my ex for about 4 years - quite awhile ago). I am trying to be considerate by not making anything “too feminine” - this tile seems like a good choice for that. My significant other didn’t say that the tile is too feminine - but I‘m not exactly sure whether he believes that or not! I definitely don’t think it’s feminine - I think it’s an attractive option for my accent wall. His suggestions have been simply TOO BORING! I don’t want a sterile looking all gray/white/black bathroom. I do want to be considerate - but it still is my house so . . . LOL! One other Q - what did you choose for your vanity/wall paint/flooring? Thanks!...See MoreMittens Cat
