What are the pros and cons of having all your bedrooms up stairs?
Comments (53)Condos, senior neighborhoods etc. I'm 47 and I would never want to burden my child with rolling out my trash (and doing a lot of other things) when I could move to an area with better services as I need them. When my parents were in their 50's they moved to their ranch house and used to say the same thing to us. However when it became clear they were no longer able to live in their house without assistance, they started balking at the idea of moving to something with better services. As they aged they didn't quite realize how much more help they needed, even after we got my Mom full time help during the day. (Mom had parkinsons and started to lose her ability to think clearly, while my Dad kept his facilities till the day he died) So would it have been better to drag my parents out kicking and screaming to someplace else, or better to help them to still live in their home. And since Dad was "clear of mind" I doubt a court would have allowed it. Once my Mom passed away, my Dad moved in with my sister. But that was his choice because he realized he couldn't maintain the house himself and he was afraid at his age of living alone. Trust me when I say the decision is never an easy one on either side of the fence....See MoreUpdating Rustic Bedroom Help- Odd windows and paint color ???
Comments (43)OP, as I said, the "drapes" wouldn't be nearly as overpowering as the photo I showed...and they don't need to be so full or high... If you don't have room to move the armoire, then it's staying, so how about that small area with the octagonal window becomes a "dressing" area...you could have a cheval mirror in front of the window (won't cut off all of it I imagine) and the wall could hold scarves/necklaces/purses. OR you could have a dressing/makeup table under the window and a little fancy chair...in other words, give that spot a purpose so that the window doesn't look like the odd man out......See MoreBedroom built-in's -- stay or go?
Comments (54)Rules vary by state for asbestos testing; in NY, at home tests are FYI only and technically have to be confirmed by a licensed, accredited lab. Testing should be done on three different areas of the same surface. For flooring, both the tiles and mastic are potential sources. As is drywall mud. All depending on age of the material. Some states have different regulations if the homeowner is doing the work than a contractor. Hopefully it’s negative, but you should research what’s required in your state if it is positive and make sure that’s something you want to take on before testing....See Morehow to you decorate a bedroom with an odd design
Comments (10)THANK YOU ALL for the great recommendations!! I will definitely put my TV on an articulating arm and repurpose it's current table in another area of my home. The black cabinets will go as soon as I get bedroom furniture as they came with the house and have no sentimental value. I love the ideas for what to put under the TV and the side table(s) with lamp(s). A rug that runs under/around the bed would be a great way to tie everything together and will also be a great landing spot for the dog as he likes to take the ramp up but jump down from the bed. Also love the idea of a picture as you enter the room on the wall straight ahead. It's a long lonely hall leading to the door and I see maybe a bright floral picture welcoming entry to the room. This room made no sense to me and now I'm excited to start shopping...thank you!!!!...See MoreHU-648612252
