Washer recommendation? Top loader
Comments (2)Yes, they have changed a lot in 27 years. For basic toploaders, or even HE toploaders, I always recommend Kenmore brands. I've always been happy with them. First one lasted 17 years, but it was moved twice. After the second move it was never the same. I know have a Kenmore HE toploader. 6-7 years old and no problems. I wanted an HE this time because we are now on septic....See MoreWasher recommendation? Top loader, no frills
Comments (41)josmyth - make sure you read the user manual completely before you ever use the machine. Also you do have to clean the tub to remove what they call a polishing compound. I have read many complaints from people about that but if you read the manual you know it is there and needs to be removed. We used wet paper towels soaked with windex. It took a couple of cleanings but it did come out. But I guess I was so sick of the GE, I was happy to do that to have a machine that actually washed....See Morelife expectancy for front loaders/top loaders?
Comments (39)Deborah, Not sure if you are asking for a recommendation or not from your post. I have a 3 year old Speed Queen top loader. Very happy with it. Out of warranty 3 months now...fingers crossed all stays in a state of bliss for years to come. Be forewarned though, Speed Queen has two model lines of TL washers now. You would want what is being referred to as the "classic" line. The other model line swishes the clothes a little bit (my salads see more agitation than clothes in those washers), unlike a classic style SQ washer which gives a rather intense agitation through the cycle. A little too much agitation for our needs to be honest, but ranch apparel needs a beating like that. So far, my washer is built like a tank and has not had an issue to date with anything I've put in it. I do take pillows to the laundromat, but that is because pillows want to float at the top of a TL and I put them through the triple load sized Speed Queen front loaders so they get a better wash (IMO). For note, SQ does make a fine front loading washing machine if you were interested in that. I can't speak to whether it could handle your soils, but something tells me it could based on a few videos I've seen of it in action....See MoreRecommendations needed for basic Top Loader washer
Comments (10)White porcelain is slightly higher quality, as it's a heavier coating. However, all the materials are of accordingly "lesser robustness" nowadays. When you consider that an upper-middle Whirlpool washer (model LDA7800W2) cost $369 in 1976, and you're looking at machines 34 years later at $379 and $329, something has to give to allow it. :-) Whirlpool has been producing this direct-drive mechanical design (with a few changes along the way) for over 26 years under the Whirlpool and Kenmore brands. KitchenAid, Roper, Estate, Inglis, and now Maytag, Amana, and Admiral. Some of the model/brand lines were slightly more durable (such as KitchenAid when they carried laundry, with heavier motors, porcelain tops and bronze bearings on the dryers). One or two Maytag models have stainless steel baskets. Otherwise, A = B = C....See MoreAnne Duke
