Can I still use Hercules Sink Harness?

After reading multiply posts regarding the Hercules Universal Sink Harness Kit (HUSH) I ordered one for my new sink install. While cleaning out the bottom of the sink I noticed something I have never noticed until now. The guys that installed the sink 20+ yrs ago cut both sides of the inside walls of my cabinet box. {For what, I don't know} Can I still use it by installing the clips below the cut portion or should I use another method all together. Please advise. I will upload some photos taken under my cabinets.

Clips and angled metal support/wood blocks are not the best way to support sinks, particularly if the sink is divided. They cannot provide constant upward pressure on the entire sink flange as strap systems do.

You'd probably have to drop that sink to strap it and install blocking on the opposite sides of the "scoops" to hold the strap attachments. If there is no recurring black/brown gunk at the sink flange, it probably isn't leaking.

Absolutely, you sure can, but I'd recommend looking into Cinclips, slightly more expensive but really holds a heavy sink up well. In fact, you're at an advantage with your countertop because those Hercules clips can interfere with the plane of the countertop, so now they won't since the cabinetry is cut down a bit. Just make sure the clips at the end of the straps are secure and level. You may need to slightly modify the cabinet further to get a secure fit in the area where the clips will sit.

Thank you....these get great reviews on Amazon. Same concept except they are made of metal. Anyone have any problem with these?

I am still waiting on the Godfather, Joe Corlett the sink guru to give his blessings.

Comet on porcelain enamel will remove the shiny surface and make it porous. Then the only way to clean it is with more comet. yes....it works to remove severe stains on corian....because sand paper is the recommended way to get out serious stains. On wall paper? Not in my house! I live in a bouse that's 85 years old. All sinks and tiles have been replaced, but one bath still has a sink and tile that is about 55 years old. Mercifully un-scoured. But the tub I replaced 4 years ago was hopelessly pitted and scarred. Comet works on drive ways and as a remover of hopeless stains on out door decks. I don't keep it in the house after a cleaning woman scrubbed my 6 month old kitchen counters with it, essentially ruining them. Linda C

I read through this thread, just waiting for someone to post a link to the BEST jar opener EVER (IMHO). But no one has posted my fave. I've tried them all, and the Swing-a-way #711 Jar and Bottle Opener is great, and really cheap too. It has never failed to open even the toughest jar or bottle, of any size. I just looked up the Precis. You can easily install it with the HUSH. The draw-tight will meet in the center, no problem. My method is better than the manufacturer's: Push a wire through a clip and twist it. With the sink lying face down and compensating for the cabinet width, take a guess at how long the wire will be short of half way across the sink by 6" or so. Bend the wire back and install the other clip at the same distance as the other. Screw the wire-twisted clips to the cabinet sides; you'll have a loop on each side. Drill a 1" hole in a 2x4 that sits above the drain when the 2x4 spans the opening. Pass a pipe clamp through the 2x4 and through the sink drain opening. Clamp the sink in place. Check the wires for distance. If you're too long or too short despite the adjustments on the HUSH, pull the sink and shorten/lengthen the wires. Re-clamp the sink and tighten the HUSH. If it all looks good, loosen the HUSH and clamp, apply silicone around the sink flange, tighten the clamp and HUSH, check your reveals, pull the clamp and you're done.

That's how I found out about Cinclips, was through a recommendation by Joseph Corlett here at Houzz at the following link, and he notes Cinclips are fine, just more expensive than the Hercules and Regent straps he uses in the field for economy: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/2959763/granite-install-advice-which-support-system-is-better

Thank you, I know this is a subject that has been discussed MANY times on this site. I was just surprised to see the cabinet had been cut inside. The granite pp that came out to measure didn't know why either. It looks like I can purchase Cinclips on Amazon. Thanks again.

We got a better look at it after we removed the counter top and sink, It looks like we got about an inch of wood on either side of the scoop. Would that allow enough space for the Hercules clips?

Side note: I hate the tip down tray in front of my sink. How could I secure that front panel permanently?

Sorry Joseph, I was out of town and did not have access to my PC. For what ever reason the cuts were made...they did not start the cut on the outer edge. I have about an inch plus of the full board. Also, how far back can I get away with to start my cut for the undermount sink. Can I do 3" from the edge instead of 4"? I have 24 1/4" depth of countertop and I need to cut 18" for sink...does not leave alot of room for faucet.

Pull your sink as far forward as possible, leaving about 1/4" between the sink flange and the back of the cabinet front. This, in combination with your overhang, will determine the width of the front rail. In vanity sinks HUSHs are installed front to back, not side to side.
