White cabinets- maple vs Thermafoil

M R

Trying to decide on new kitchen cabinets for our new construction “forever home”.

Option 1: handmade Amish construction, maple doors, plywood boxes, painted white with some sort of varnish, shaker style with slight bevel. $12,000

Option 2: Kraftmaid thermafoil. White shaker with bevel. $8500

I‘m fairly certain of what we’ll decide, but wanted to get input here as well. I’m aware of the issues with thermafoil - heat sensitivity, bubbling, etc but most discussions I’ve seen regarding those issues are years old. Has the quality improved at all?

I‘m also aware of the issues of expansion/contraction with solid wood doors, especially at the shaker joints.

I’ve searched the forums and have read the relevant discussions, but I am not seeing anything recent! Would love to hear input from anyone who has had kitchens with similar products (I’ve had neither!)
