Planning a New England Get Together
Comments (40)Stumbled on this elsewhere and thought this would be a valuable tool in our planning. "About eight months ago, Mapmuse.com began a project -- the interactive mapping of garden centers and nurseries across the country. They initially researched and populated these maps ourselves, with the idea in mind that the public would subsequently add to, and enhance, the information provided. They mapped each garden center or nursery, and provided space for a written description, photo, and link to a web site. Since this project was launched, gardening enthusiasts have made 100s of additions and enhancements to our maps. If you know of any garden centers or nurseries in your local community that are new or have closed in the last six months, please make those changes to the maps. Also, please feel free to add any places that are still missing. They also have a searchable map and listing of local public gardens and arborerta to visit that gives a good basic listing for our region." The site even has the ability to bring up a map showing the actual location....See MoreDaily Support Mon. Nov. 9th thru Sun. Nov. 15th
Comments (28)Good Saturday morning, everyone! It's sunny and warming up here to 79 this afternoon. I've been up and out to my church women's monthly meeting. Our guest speaker today spoke about her husband's death from breast cancer 5 years ago. He was diagnosed 20 years ago, and with chemo, he had 7 cancer-free years, then they found spots on his lungs, and with Tamoxifen (sp?) he had another 5 good years before it moved to his brain. I'd never thought about men having breast cancer before, but it accounts for 10% of the BC deaths these days. Donna, that's great that your construction is under way! I'd love to see progress pics. Suzanne, at least you're rained in with your hubby at home, right? It could always be worse. LOL Tikanis, I hope you find your perfect bike and new clothes. Have fun out in the garden, too! BJ, I'm sending you good vibes and comforting hugs. Please pass them on to your friends. How sad for everyone. We played canasta with our friends last night, and it was almost like old times. Lots of laughs, bad jokes, and ribbing about our playing. We've been erratic about playing since our friend Larry died, but I hope we get back to playing regularly because it's good for all of us to get together. I think that hubby and I are going sightseeing this afternoon. There's a town called Spring about an hour away from here, and their 'old town' is officially opened and dressed up beginning today for Christmas. I've never been there, so it will be fun to see it at its prettiest the first time. I'm always up for finding fun odds and ends for those little 'extras' at Christmas or even for birthday treats. Hubby has decided to join the church, so tomorrow is the big day. He's been waiting until all our friends could be in attendance to join, and it's taken 2 months to reach this day. He's already immersed in several volunteer things around there, so this is almost just a formality. I'm glad he came to this decision on his own without any pressure from me, too. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!...See MoreSS Support Mon. Nov.13th through Sun. Nov. 19th
Comments (32)Good Morning. Besh - sorry about your friend. I had an immediate member of my family attempt suicide and it was a very traumatic experience. I can relate to your friend and his family. Very deep issues. Suzanne - Your night out to the theatre and dinner sounds like my kind of night. Where is BJ, I haven't read a post from her. I pretty much caught up from my mia months. QOD: We will have a low key Thanksgiving. My DH's mother and sister are visiting us now since Wednesday and they leave the day prior to Thanksgiving, so we have been having special dinners and going out to eat quite a bit. So I may just make soup and salad for Thanksgiving dinner -- hahahahhahaha. I made a turkey breast yesterday and it was YUMMERS. I hear them in the kitchen now making a italian cookie/biscuit my MIL used to make my husband when he was younger. Oh such happiness -- brings a tear to my eye. GMWAS (Gag me with a spoon). (wink wink) I know my DH is enjoying every minute of it. We drove to he east coast of Florida on thursday and went to a Bloomingdales. I love it. We do not have any here on the west coast(at least that I know of). So my husband bought me a Dooney and Burke purse (which he did a year ago this time when they came down for a visit) So you can bet your bottom dollar that I am hoping this is a yearly thing. Patti - my parents also celebrated their 50th anniversary last month. My husband and I threw them a party at a party center in Ohio (where I am from)and had 130 people there with a band. It was quite a challenge organizing it from Florida. Plus my mom gave her input too.....so... I took a lot of deep breaths and went forward the entire time. I had a blast. A good time was had by all and it was worth all the effort and aggravation just to see how happy it made my parents. We even had my cousin who is an Catholic Deacon renew their vows. Not a dry eye in the joint at that point. Man this is a long post. I better save some for tomorrow. Take care everyone..... Lynn...See MoreAdopt-A-Pot Get Together
Comments (25)Sharon, I would love to see you and meet Bobby and Cathy in Florida next year. Kevin and I have a place to stay in Tampa at his friend's house, and I think I would enjoy exporing Tampa Bay and the surrounding area. I would love to see Clive again also - I enjoyed talking with him very much when I first met him. Kevin has lots of vacation time - me not so much, and so I have to ration it carefully. What time of year were you thinking of going? I don't do well in heat, and so May through September might be uncomfortable (I'm remembering when I lived in Houston). I remember September still being hurricane season. Jasper is a beautiful cat, Bobby! Lars...See MoreLars
