Offset sink drain + garbage disposal-show me the plumbing please!
Comments (6)The drain is offset to the back, i.e., a right-rear corner drain. It is an Elkay EGUH2816R. I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but my drain stub-out comes out farther from wall than the GD drain, and then the P-trap loops backwards to meet the GD drain tailpiece. Thus, I can see your contractor's concern. The drain stub-out perhaps did not need to come as far from the wall as I made it. As you can see, I offset the drain stub-out from the center of the sink drain by 6" or so. I think that if I had placed the stub-out in line with the drain, I could have gotten everything to work. I would have had to have had a shorter stub-out, and then turned the GD tailpiece a bit to one side (by rotating the GD). This probably won't make you feel any better, but I filled several pages in my notebook with calculations before deciding where to put the drain stub-out! (In my case, I was trying to accommodate both this sink and some future homeowner's unwise decision to use a sink with a center drain.) Comments (27)I do hate the yucky flange ! any good / easy way to clean that? anyway, I haven't had a gd in over 30 yrs until about 2 yrs ago. I didn't plan to get one here but my sink kept stopping up. I had a small one put in and presto, I run it and the water goes down. I actually got it because of the little bits that end up in the sink - cause I don't put regular stuff down it. I scrape plates into the trash, not the sink. When I prep I put throw away parts into an old plastic bowl, then that gets dumped into the trash (depending on what it is - sometimes I take it out for the rabbits). I always have that nagging thought about losing a finger or hand in the gd. Don't know why, I had one when the 4 kids were young and none of them lost a part in it, nor did I. Maybe I worry I might forget what that gd really does? Tho, since I seldom run it cause there isn't much to run thru it, I'll survive. I seldom cook to have anything to put in it either. I never did put egg shells or coffee grinds in the one I had in the 70s....See MoreGarbage Disposal
Comments (5)Cathy, this is fantastic information. Just what I was looking for. Thanks so much. I'm going to meet with the manager of the MHP today and I'll double check, I think he said the park is on well water and it is included with the park fee. I'll have to make sure. And, it's early enough that I can get the switch installed when the home is built. Now that you mentioned it, I think I remember some people with the switch for the disposal in the cabinet under the sink. Gosh, that goes back a long way. I think it was when they were first becoming popular so the switch wasn't installed during construction. The disposal was added later and you had to open the cabinet door to access the switch. Thanks again!...See MoreIs this enough room for this garbage disposal?
