String of Hearts problems
Comments (15)Hi Nancy, Gorgeous plant, lovely blooms, pretty marvelous! TFS. Sorry Joanna, I didn't know it was growing in clay OR under lights. I think in addition to the draining problems I keep suggesting, it's getting cooked from above & too dry in the clay. These aren't necessarily direct sun plants. Note my pix above, the pots are small plastic pots, I have some other pix I saw last night, let me look around. Again, small plastic pot, LOTS of pumice, but you could do similarly w/ Perlite, I'd skip the bark & just use 50/50 C&S mix & Perlite so it's VERY fast training. I also use pebble trays under mine, these CW are really fairly thirsty for succulents. It's a space issue for me that causes me to wind the stems up like that & mound them on top of the pot to grow in rather than let them hang down. Here's what my pebble trays look like for these, the small potted plant sits on top of these pebbles, allowing me to water deepy to overflow. Allows quick drainage, then the plant can absorb more moisture as needed from the overflow on the pebbles. I do similarly w/ my Hoyas & epiphytes, they all like deep watering like this....See MoreString of hearts vs string of spades
Comments (29)@HU-588717573 this is really interesting to see, thanks for sharing! If you're based in New Zealand, I may be able to offer a cutting, but I don't know about sending plants overseas, I imagine there could be strict import/biosecurity restrictions etc. That is really interesting to hear about the pollination with Woodii. If that is true, then it only raises more questions about how Spades came to be, but could make sense as the flower really is very different to Woodii. Both the Spades leaf and flower feel quite similar to my Rendallii:...See MoreString of pearls and string of hearts propagation
Comments (3)Hello & Pls stop worrying. A week is no time at all in plant time. I only know & grow String of Hearts (Ceropegia woodii). You need to pls have some patience, likely to take 2-3 weeks or more to root in water. I wouldn't use a tall glass of water. Best to just keep an inch or so in the water, that's best not more. Time & patience is what you & the cuttings need....See MoreHow can I help my string of hearts? Please help!
Comments (5)These can be a bit tricky but they're tougher than they look. Sounds like yours has a rootball which is thirsty, but can't take up they water from a hardened off rootball. So, you can soak it in an inch or 2 of water, or take it out of pot first, rough up bottom roots & soak for a while. OR, poke some holes in the top of the mix & water directly into them. In several months you might remove the mix from the roots completely & refresh w/ new mix. A few yellowing leaves can be removed, no problem. Also, I'd remove that mossy stuff, doesn't help the plant & just gives insects a potential home. One of mine, showing some of its tubers. I usually cut these back every year or 2 & restart them. They sometimes look scrappy, & can benefit from restarting. One can take stem or tip cuttings & root them in water, too....See More- 4 years ago
