dining room updating/decorating help needed!
Comments (22)I love your dining room and your dining room set! I like having a place for the family to have a quiet dinner. I share your fondness for the blue and white look. I think with the soft blue above and the white below, you could go with a chair fabric in a navy range, maybe in a lattice. This is a fabric I chose recently, but our dining room is part of the kitchen and that door opens to the garage. The general colors are similar though: Think how different it would be if you choose a lattice pattern or a stripe than if you went with a floral/botanical in essentially the same color range. I hadn't intended that entry mat to be part of the color scheme in the photo, but now that I look at it, a dark rug under your table is a possibility. Not black, but dark, and probably not a solid - it would show every speck. I'm not getting how the drapes fit into the room. The green stripe just seems not to go at all, but it must (even if not perfect) or you wouldn't have gotten as far as trying it out. Could you post a picture that shows how the drape wall fits into the rest of the room?...See MoreDining room decor HELP!!!!!!!!
Comments (22)I am going to be a voice of dissent here. I prefer the drama of your drapes to lighter solid ones. Everyone, my self included, has dining rooms with generic oriental rugs and light grey or white solid panel curtains. It is the rug I think should be changed out . It is busier than the curtains and although lovely it is generically expected. A dining room needs to have elements of surprise to go from normal to elegant and the rug will not give that to your room but the curtains, with a different rug, would. I do agree that because the other three walls are still very unadorned that the mirror between the pretty curtains looks crowded and makes the room unbalanced. You can add more art to the other negative space or move the round mirror. Either option will serve to bring balance to all the walls. Furthermore, what is wrong with being dark when we are decorating dining rooms? It is a formal room already. Dark and moody is not dreary but rather dramatic and special in such a room. Would I want my breakfast room dark no, but the mood set in a purposely dark dining room is elegant and brings to mind special candlelit occasions. Congrats on your new house!...See MoreDining Room decor help!
Comments (14)I’d lean towards making room feel casual, airy, and bright for your family. There are so many directions you could head and suggest looking for inspiration pictures that appeal to you and then narrow down the components you are drawn to. I think your chairs are fine and will be complimented by the look below, using a black sideboard to work with darkness of table and provide impact against subdued floor and wall color. Add lighter and larger art for an infusion of soft color and you could bring back your plant for warmth. Accessorize side board with pottery and table with a large bowl. A large black chandelier would make a big difference and on back wall add a series of prints. I’d also shorten drapes so they aren’t puddled and you could change rod to a thick black one - Amazon has some nice ones at good prices....See MoreNeed help with living room/dining room paint and decor
Comments (29)Yes, arrangement looks much better!! If you are anxious to paint, you could roll out the Natural Wicker, as you are going to need a primer anyway over that deep paint. Won't hurt to use is as basically a primer. I can't really recommend a paint until you are finished with the room. Your next step will be chairs, lamps, end tables, lamps (I would get a nesting coffee table or oval), art and drapes (which are too short)....See Morenjmomma
