Rose arrived today; too early to plant?
Comments (15)Good advice above. Here's another choice. I'm in Zone 6 and have often planted bareroot roses in the 3rd and 4th weeks of March. Admittedly those winters weren't as cold and crazy as this winter has been, but I notice already that parts of the garden are quite diggable, and I transplanted a rose last week to a new spot in the garden--worked out fine! So my advice would be to soak the roses in water, keep them in a cooller place (unheated garage is good) with little or no sunshine, change the water each week, and when you encounter a diggable day in the garden in the next week or two, go ahead and plant them. Good Luck! Kate...See Morehhrd! huge austin roses arrived today!
Comments (22)Bet, a healthy bush of Pat Austin will do well for you. It is one of the few Austins that have a pretty good resistance to blackspot in my garden. I've been a little disappointed in my Tea Clipper so far, the blooms have been very pale and washed out in appearance, nothing like the photo's I have seen. I am going to give it time and see if that improves but not an impressive first impression. Mine came from David Austin as well and were huge! I also got Darcy B. and the blooms on that one are gorgeous and fragrant. Congrats on your big, fat, bare roots. Carol...See MoreHeirloom Roses order arrived today!! @-)-
Comments (7)Nastarana so happy to hear that. I wanted something that was a good climber as well as continual bloomer. I planted it up against an iron trellis that backs up to a fence. I had a red climber that didn't do too well and had a virus of some sort. Forget what it was called. I dug that up and put in some fertilizer a couple of weeks ago to prep the soil for my new Polka. I can't wait till its tall and full of blooms. I'll be able to see it all the way from the front of my house through to the back yard. I sit in the font of my house to study and can see straight to the yard. I'm going to enjoy these! Our elderly neighbor loves roses and she can see mine from her kitchen where she sits. I always clip roses and bring them to her. She and I have the same birthday so I go over with roses from my garden and a cake. She has way too much shade in her yard and just never had any luck with roses but I share mine with her any way I can....See More3 Julia Child roses arriving today! Let's talk Julia!
