blueberries in a wine barrel
Comments (31)Brady, I was looking at some soil today made by Dr. Earth that may fit the bill for what you are looking for. Maybe this mix could be top dressed on your plants or you could make a compost tea and use it as fertilizer periodically on your plants. Notice this soil "guarantees" that Mycorrhizae are present and that its Infused with eight select strains of ecto & endo mycorrhizae. Here is the link and the ingredients. http://organicgreenroots.com/Dr-Earth-BAGTAINER.html 100% Organic & Natural Hand Crafted Blend. Infused with seven champion strains of beneficial soil microbes. ProMoisture Hydrate protects the Pro-biotics with an infusion of organic aloe vera. Infused with eight select strains of ecto & endo mycorrhizae. MycoApply Certified: Guarantees Mycorrhizae is in the soil. Can be used as a compost tea. Aloe Vera and Yucca extracts. Provides abundant nutrients and ideal drainage. Ideal mix to use at time of transplanting. Grow plants right in the bag. Patented bag design reflects heat away from roots. An abundance of Bat Guano & earth worm castings. Natural growth regulators. Bio-active and Bio-available. Won't burn seedlings....See MoreBlueberries in a half wine barrel planter??
Comments (10)Thank you EVERYONE for the great advice. I have my half wine barrel on order. I also have 3 bags of leaf compost, 2 bags of sand and 2 buckets of well aged horse manure. I have an excellent source to collect both fresh and decomposed pine needles. I will be mixing a combination of this for the soil. I also have peat moss and perilite in my shed which will also be used. It should be a good mix. I would like to load up on the decomposed pine needle compost but I don't want to go too nuts with it. I will be using a rubber mulch tree ring to rest the barrel half on. This worked really good for my butterfly bush half barrel planter and I figure it will slow the barrel bottom from rotting for a few more years. Once again, thanks for all the great advice. I appreciate the time everyone gave to respond to this forum. Kevin...See MoreWhere can I find red wine for a gift in a HUGE bottle!!
Comments (5)A coworker scoped out Total Wine for me.... he looked at champagne in Magnum and double-Magnum sizes. You can get decent champagne in the double-magnum size for 180. I can't decide what to get my Dad for xmas.... he has everything ....he doesn't have a really cool looking bottle of wine. My fear is that I'll get some wine he doesn't like. I'll have goen for quantity not the quality. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to check it out myself in the red wines.......See MoreHas anyone ever made Blueberry Wine.
Comments (4)Yes, my husband and I have made blueberry wine. We make 5 gallons at a time of all the wine we make and it is all dry wine. My husband likes the wine we make but I like sweet wine. We use about 25lbs. of fruit for 5 gallons. Have you ever checked out www.winemaking.jackkeller.net, it is full of recipes and information....See More- 6 years ago
