The pear/chocolate problem

Pears cry out for chocolate. I have a big box ripening now, and again I'm wondering how to balance those flavors with such different strengths. Chocolate overwhelms the delicate flavor of pears. And yet.... They call to each other.

I recently saw an English recipe for a pear and chocolate cake that has you standing three whole pears in a loaf pan filled with chocolate cake batter. I am skeptical.

I usually take tiny bites of good dark chocolate while eating a perfectly ripe peeled Bartlett pear.

I'm going to try using a little bit of chocolate in a nice pear cake recipe from ReadingLady.

Have you found a pear-and-chocolate recipe that allows the pear to come through?
