what would you do to improve the exterior of our house?
Comments (15)Thanks all! Ok, so no shutters. Got it! 1 less project ;) And we are actually fog coating with that beige color stucco. No paint. I do love the mock up of the darker color! But I wanted a lighter color for hopefully keeping the house cooler. I would have loved off-white but afraid of looking dirty. I’m happy with the color. Need to get the other 3 sides fog coated now. And I think I like the darker brown trim along the roofline too. Our windows are brown/bronze so I think that’s a nice compliment. But I’m still unsure about the trim around the garage and front doors. I like the idea of a lighter color (grey/green or a greige) there. Something that will compliment the house & the landscaping which will have all shades of green. And also my teal/turquoise pots (that I don’t have yet). I’m trying to get it to have a Mediterranean feel even though I know it’s not a Mediterranean style. ;) But I’m having a hard time envisioning the grey/green or greige trim. Can anyone mock that up? Any other thoughts on the trim? Here’s a pic of our front entry. It’s a work in progress! But you can see the trim. And clearly I need to tile the floor but we might extend it a bit. I’m thinking travertine. It was a very 70s dark brown time with flowers (?!?). We’re getting there! Thanks all! Keep the ideas coming please :) Love them!...See Morewhat would you do to this exterior?
Comments (10)Stall on the roof while you do some research IMO. If your home photo is current (as in this week), since you don't have leaves on the trees yet and your lawn is brown, you evidently live in a northern area with snow? In those conditions, standing seam seems to be the way to go.... HOWEVER.... and this is why I say to research first. See how your house is in the blazing sun? Research solar. My roof is purpose-built for solar, neither standing seam nor shingle. I've been getting at least some solar power all winter (except one month), yep, even though we get a lotta snow here. If your state has an agency for energy efficiency—as mine does—get their advice and see if they have grants for solar or incentives dependent on income. Tip: If you're researching solar, also find out if your state has net-metering. That way, you can generate solar in summer to pay the bills in winter. Cost out EVERYTHING for your overall savings, and not just the expense of the solar panels. Cost out utility savings per month, projected increase in value of home, tax reduction, if the roof costs less than a standing seam or shingle because the materials/techniques are different.... Arrive at your long-term savings, not just your short-term expense....See Morewhat exterior paint colors would make pink brick seem less pink? Help!
Comments (7)As noted earlier, the green just draws more attention. I would: 1) Remove the shutters from the double windows. 2) Paint all the trim and garage doors a nice medium taupe. Don't paint the garage doors a different color as it draws more attention to them. 3) Paint the shutters, maybe a darker tone of the trim. 4) Paint the front door. A black door with taupe trim/shutters would be very striking. If you're interested in seeing some virtual makeovers of your home, check out my website, Creative Visual Concepts. Comments (17)It's a pretty awesome property. I honestly think all I would do to it for now is to wash the brick (gently so as not to damage). This one I would not paint the brick. You could freshen up the landscaping. I love the brick pavers but that is a whole lot of hardscape. You might remove some to allow for more planting. Good luck and it really is gorgeous!...See Moredecoenthusiaste
