Need help with paint choices two story foyer w/chair rail
Comments (32)I wanted to post some after photos and thank everyone who took the time to comment. It turns out that the wall was "indented" when we removed the chair rail so my DH has spent several weekends to build it back up with joint compound and texture it to blend in with the walls. It was a painfully tedious process (first trying to do it by hand, then with a sponge, then with spray-on compound that dribbled everywhere, and finally with a trowel lightly loading dabs of compound on). If you look closely you can still tell, but it's not as glaring as it was several iterations ago. Suffice to say, we are thrilled to be done with sanding, priming, texturing, and painting! Now, I need to figure out what wall decor to put up as the removal of the chair rail makes it a much easier space to deal with! Any and all advice would be appreciated. I was thinking of doing a photo gallery near the front entry, but that is a HUGE wall and I don't know that I can put photos high enough where you can still see them but not so low that the wall looks off-balance. Forgive the quality of the photos, taken without a flash on my iPhone....See MoreDoes Remodeling the Kitchen Cause you to lose your mind?
Comments (40)Yes. I'm comforted by the others who measured so much that they memorized the numbers. Sometimes I would ask if contractors if they were sure they had measured correctly, especially when they were off from my own numbers. I used to measure, re-measure, re-remeasure, and re-re-measure. My best friend would call me up and ask if she'd interrupted my measuring. At random times of the day I would suddenly have new ideas on layouts, and I'd HAVE to draw, re-draw, and re-re draw everything. I would sit in meetings at work and calculate the possible cabinet dimensions or work up budget figures. Luckilly I work with numbers and financials so no one realized I wasn't taking notes at the meeting, I had graph paper and tracing paper, samples, etc. I visited dozens of showrooms and had 2-3 contingency plans for every decision. Guess what, it all paid off in the end and I love the result....See MoreLosing sleep over a BLAH living room
Comments (13)HI- The first thing I see is the door on the left side of the fireplace ... I think is a bit of a problem . Do you think that door opening can be moved around the corner ? Then close that side off and match to the wood wall . Will the sofa work if you had it coming off the right side of the fireplace ...would that then put it in front of a window ? Then a pair of small modern square chairs can set across facing the sofa .... this is why that door opening has to be closed off. To modernize the fireplace either paint the brick part or put some tile over the brick in some marble or plain tiles in white or black ...which ever looks good with the wood . Have matching bookcases on each side of fireplace backed with mirror - or matching chests or accent tables with large mirror above on each side . A nice moden shiny firescreen . A big round clock or a modern painting above the mantel . A rug that fits inside of the wood border of the wood floor perhaps in a textured wool in a neutral color . Full height side drape panels - back tab on rod with blinds over windows . Keep the room fairly uncluttered with only what you need and a few chosen decor items . You may need to re-paint ... a good warm white is "Greek Villa " by Sherwin Williams ( no yellow in it ) ... or " China White " by Benjamin Moore - this has a slight blue under tone that will work with the sofa ....See MoreLosing my mind over paint
Comments (73)Here's a simple picture showing how difficult this all is. The paint shown is the same grey paint. But it is showing up as a bunch of different colors depending on the light. They all do this. This is why we risk losing our minds. https://www.kylieminteriors.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/How-to-pick-the-best-gray-paint-colour.-Showing-Benajmin-Moore-Shoreline-by-Kylie-M-INteriors-Edesign-blog.jpg...See MoreK Laurence
