my Chamaecyparis thyoides tend to be rather loose and sparse ... gorgeous in and of themselves... but not a screen as OP wants ... your description of your water situation is lacking... many plants can withstand a spring deluge .. or once in a while rainstorm accumulation ... its more a matter of how long the water stands there ... i would need to know soil type ... drainage ... time of year ... soil saturation other than the periodic spasm of too much water ... etc ... planting 'high' ... even just a foot can sometimes overcome the issue ... my favorite fall back for tall and thin is Thuja occidentalis 'Degroot's Spire' .. once established.. they do about a foot per year ... i have one that is about 10 feet tall and 2 feet wide ... you must insure a single leader plant from youth ... and they should be rather cheap .. if you go small ... i even got some to root one time .... ken Here is a link that might be useful: link

When I first planted my garden I found it fell into "overgrown" very quickly. I came to believe that having some structure in the garden, even the most informal cottage garden, is the key to avoiding this. Edgings, thoughtful use of color range, and avoiding too many different kinds of ornaments can all help. It can be as simple as having all the pots the same color, or using the same material for climbing structures over and over, or bordering all the beds with the same kind of low plant. Then the chaos beyond resolves itself into abundance rather than disorder. Generous use of mulch lends an air of tidiness, too, as does occasional deadheading. Mulch is my favorite weapon in this battle, since it reduces weeding and watering at the same time. Rosefolly

Creekylis and Linnea, thanks. My previous camera just wouldn't pop the lens out if the batt was too low. Live and learn, I'll try recharging the batt. This camera is new to me so I'm still trying to figure the beastie out. Parsonse, I'll join the others in telling you your room is very pretty, and the light fixture is just right. Your panelling job is gorgeous! It looks like it's always been there. I've looked at that style before (drawings) and wondered how it would look made up. Did you also beef up the moulding around your door?

lynn2006 - I'm not necessarily handy, this is my first time trying this stuff, lol. I just watch a lot of how to videos, and then take my time. The cabinets are from Cliq Studios in Dayton White. I searched a long time, and saw the positive and negative reviews for them, but they were the best option for us. They just arrived yesterday, and I do have problems with a couple of them which will need to be replaced. A couple of the negative reviews dealt with the shipping situation from Cliq, but my experience was fine. They scheduled the delivery for 3-6 PM, but the driver arrived before 2PM. I wasn't home, and he waited for me until I arrived at 2:55. As for color, I had my sample color matched at Sherwin Williams - it's very close to SW Alabaster, which is a slightly creamy white. The walls have one coat of SW Creamy (over the old green color), but I'm not sure I like the two different whites together. I'll wait for the 2nd coat on the walls until the countertops are installed. Speaking of countertops - I was originally planning on Silestone, but changed my mind to get soapstone on the perimeter.
