Floor stain color help please- coffee brown?
Comments (9)We just had wood flooring put in last spring and I chose the coffee stain. I love it so much that it isn't even healthy! I will try to post a picture for you tomorrow. We chose rift and quartersawn white oak, and it is gorgeous. I usually find something to be critical about when I buy/install something in my house, but this time I have no regrets AT ALL. We had the flooring company do the water pop to show the grain more, and it's perfect. And believe me, I never, ever say anything is perfect. :) Victoria...See MorePlease help with stained floor
Comments (15)If it's water popped you have to do three coats but you could probably get away with four without detracting from the look of the floor. Any more than that and you'll start losing the surface texture. The first coat is applied and buffed to make smooth. After the second and third coat it can be buffed with an abrasive nylon pad which removes very little. Then apply a final clearcoat....See MorePlease help me decide floor stain
Comments (9)I definitely root for natural. You're going to have one orange house in time. And definitely one through-out. Now, since you lost on the finish, can you win on the stain? Let him know you acquiesced to a top coat that will yellow over time. Products (and particularly any oil-based products) with -uranthane yellow. Period. Red oak + yellowing floor coating? PLUS your reddish cabinets? For me that would be totally overwhelming at some point. I'd be eyeing paint and I'm willing to bet your DH would faint at the thought of painting those cabinets. I would have chosen a stain without red, such as Special Walnut (one coat isn't dark and looks GREAT on oak) or even Jacobean if you prefer a darker stain. But that's just me. I'm fussing with my pine kitchen floor that will yellow naturally. I'm probably going to use a Bona HD High Traffic sealer because it's not supposed to yellow. I'm trying to get a stain color that doesn't turn "honey" as the wood oxidizes....See MoreHelp please: Hardwood Floor Stain problem
Comments (20)Thank you everyone for your feedback! Here's an update: we will go with Bona Provincial Stain + Pallmann 98 for both floors. I did more research, it seems a consistent wood color throughout the house is preferred by the market. I do like the pale raw look, it has a modern vibe I aspire to get. I also like the wood in general, hate the painted millwork. Provincial on red oak seems warm and also give me the contrast, as my house is mainly painted SW Alabaster/Pure White except for the dark master bed. If I was able to replace the whole floor, I would pick white oak, wider plank, higher grade and do a clear coat from Loba Invisible, that's it. That will give me the look I love. This is refinishing existing aged floor, my floor guy said there will be imperfection, such as dark gap lines, mineral deposit, variation in color from previous patch repair. He suggest to have a colored stain instead of clear coat. Fingers crossed!...See MoreJohn Mir
